GeForce 4 and Athlon XP on a KT133A board having problems, any thoughts before I replace it?

For the past month or so I have been working on getting my new Athlon XP 1800+ and Gainward GeForce 4 Ti 4200 to work on my old Iwill KK266 (not plus). It has been a challenge to say the least. At first I thought it was ok, but lately some issues have been cropping up. The first one is apparently one some other people have been getting. Apparently GeForce 3's and above take too much power for my board, and during Windows setup it refuses to complete. This can be avoided by using an older video card, but that is kind of annoying. The other problem is that there are massive issues with running the CPU at even stock voltage (I know the KK266 overvolts, but I'm talking actual voltage). My second hard drive would shut down and then spin back up and then spin down again. I "only" have a 300 watt power supply, but it's an Antec and I'm only running 3 Panaflo fans, 2 7200 RPM hard drives, a DVD drive, a CD-RW drive, a GeForce 4 Ti 4200, a network card and a soundblaster live. And undervolting the processor has it's own issues, Windows is kind of unstable and is prone to crashing, and I'm not sure whether there are any little errors or not. Other than the GeForce 4 and the Athlon XP, I've had the rest of the stuff working together for a long time now (well, one of the hard drives changed, but I know it's not a hard drive problem).

In any case, I wanted to get one last set of opinions on what to try here before I just buy a new board and memory. Any thoughts?

By the way, I'm looking at getting an Epox 8K5A2+ and a 512 stick of Samsung PC2700, any thoughts on either of those two? Thanks a lot.

I have the latest BIOS (October 2001). As far as buying the ECS board goes, I was thinking about it, but if I'm going to buy a new board, I'd like to get as up to date a board as possible.

I have the MSI ti4400 working on my IWill KK266+ (no raid) w/ athlonxp 1700+ @1900+ and a 431watt enermax PS.

I don't know if you have done so already, but the guys on the newsgroup alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.iwill are very helpfull in regards to the KK266. So you should give them a try.

I have an Iwill KK266 (non plus also), and I noticed that whenever I plug in my GF4 Ti4600 that my SCSI card disappears....thus keeping me from booting. I wonder if our problems are related. In the mean time I'm stuck with a Virge DX video card 🙁. I'm just planning on buying a KT266A mobo soon & going to 3 systems. Any reasons to believe this won't work?

I should mention I'm running a 1.4Ghz Tbird (no XP).

I've got an KK266 (non + or raid) with a 1.4 T-Bird and a Ti-4200 with just as many drives and a 300W PS. I've heard this board sometimes has troubles with XP processors, but since yours seems fine with a lower video card my guess would be power. Have you tried increasing the VIO voltage through the jumper? I've got mine increased slightly, and it may be worth a shot.
