Weirdstuff.com has GeForce 3 64M OEM cards for $70. Seems like a great deal to me if you want a cheap but pretty darn good video card.

I bought one and it works well. I've never bought from them online, but I"ve bought from their Sunnyvale retail store several times and never had any problems.

Here's a link to the webpage Weirdstuff.com
Search for 14055 (sorry couldn't get the direct link to work without what looked like a session id)

Anyone know what the P50 part means? I was looking around and couldn't find anything(in english) that made reference to a GeForce P50 except on this page, where down at the bottom it lists a Vision Tek GeForce3 P50 as one that won't fry the i845 board. If it's a decent card I could use this to tide me over until FX prices fall to a reasonable level.

Well, I have one, so I'd be happy to answer questions. But here is what I know.

No manufacturer info anywhere on the card, and searching by any numbers on the card turned up nothing.

It's an original GeForce 3, ie. 200 MHz core, 460 MHz RAM - havn't played with OC-ing much, but the RAM runs at 500 no problem.

The RAM has heatsinks on it, that I don't want to remove, so I can't tell you what it is.

It looks exactly like the picture that is on their web site.

I don't use the TV-out, so I don't know what it does, but I could check the TV encoder chip and let eveyone know what chip it is.
:)

My statistically insignificant experience was that they were alright. Ordered a PSU and HSF and got them reasonably quickly.

Looks like it is worth the $$ to me. And also pricewatch shows it as the lowest price. Listed as a generic card, so probably the mfger is not well known, but the drivers would be easy to find anyway. And better than Jaton I am sure.

i have them right now - gf3 w cel 1.0 ghz homebuilt and 98 768mb ddr samsung = 98.3 fps
8500 le w cel 1.3 compaq with xp 512mb sdram infineon = 121.7 fps
these are the best i've gotten so far in high quality with all game options turned off -- but i'm gonna hit it again with the new drivers i got from nvidia's page tonight
anyway, pretty similar performance is all i'm saying
this is a good deal for a card that will run ut2k3 smoothly...
carmack says it will be good for doom 3 also -- but he's a backslider imo :(

The manufacturer is almost a given as visiontek, since they made nvidia's test boards and this is nearly identical to a visiontek board also.

GF3 is still a great card, and there are still those who prefer nVidia drivers to ATI.

Also note that they have the Diamond Viper2 Z200 Savage2000 card for $30, for those who prefer S3 drivers to nVidia or ATI ;)

So how is the s-video card on this? I've been wanting to get an video-out card so I could use my computer as a dvd player to my tv. So the radeon8500le performs better. Wheres the best price on this card and does it come with video out?

slaughters it

It's funny that the mx440 can't even come close to the ti200 (not as hard to believe when you realize a mx440 is really just a gf2). They got rid fo MX's around gf3 and I don't think anyone minded. Now they 'bring them back' and they aren't based relatively on same core as the mainstream product. If you can only spend as much as MX440, get a radeon or a Ti200. You may as well get performance or visual quality over neither.

maybe you could plug the gf3 into the 8500 machine and bench it :). nicer comparison this way.
