Geforce 2

Hey can someone give a breakdown of performance between these older video cards?
history too? anti-aliasing performance? Thanks!

Geforce 2 GTS, MX, MX200, MX400, Ti
Voodoo 3, 4, 5
3D Prophet 4000XT

For non hardware T&L games (AKA DX 6 games)

voodoo3 < Voodoo4 <= MX200<MX<MX400 < Geforce2 GTS <= Voodoo5 < GeforceTI

The later 3dfx drivers really helped the voodoo5 and 4.

I'll try and see what I can remember and dig up quickly.

In order of most powerful to least powerful.

GPU ------------- Pixel/Texel Fillrate -- RAM -- Memory Bandiwdth

Geforce2 Ti ----- 1000Mpps/2000Mtps, 64MB, 6.4GBps

Geforce2 GTS --- 800Mpps/1600Mtps, 32/64MB, 5.3GBps

Voodoo5 5500 --- 667Mpps/667Mtps, 64MB***, 5.3GBps

Geforce2 MX400 - 400Mpps/800Mtps, 32/64MB, 2.7GBps

Geforce2 MX ----- 350Mpps/700Mtps, 32/64MB, 2.7GBps

Voodoo4 4500 --- 333Mpps/333Mtps, 32MB, 3.2GBps

Geforce2 MX200 - 350Mpps/700Mtps, 32MB, 1.3GBps

***The Voodoo5 5500 had 64MB of onboard memory, but due to the way it handled graphics, data was doubled, so effectively, it only had 32MB.

All Nvidia Cards here support Hardware Transform & Lighting as apposed to the 3dfx cards. This means that 3dfx cards need High CPU power to run optimally.

Anti-aliasing: The Voodoo series had a much better looking AA and too much less of a hit doing it. For AA, the Voodoo5 is better.

Voodoo3 - The Voodoo3 comes in many flavors and was never meant to compete agains the rest of the lineup. It also doesn't support 32-bit color in 3d games, only 16-bit.

Don't know much about 3d prophet.

I just looked at Anandtech's old reviews of GF2 and 3's and realized they were butt ugly cards. Today's cards look awesome compared to old.

I thought that, too. That's why I put a big vantec iceberq HSF on my Geforce2 TI 64mb with some arctic silver 5 😀

It started out at 250mhz, but the thing wasn't even warm. It was so cold, in fact, I was worried if contact was even being made. But I knew that I installed it correctly, so I started overclocking.

I hit 310mhz and got scared. The vantec still doesn't get warm, but I don't know what to expect from going so high on the clocks.

So 8 ramsinks later, my GF2ti looks pimpin' with it's new vantec blue LED copper HSF 😀
