GeForce 2 TI + XP + video clip = reboot Why??

I'm running a Gainward GeForce 2 TI under Windows XP, and every time I try to play any type of video file
I either get a total reboot or a crazy distored screen and have to reboot. I've downloaded the new XP drivers
from Gainward, but they didn't solve anything.

Is there something simple like changing the refresh or other settings which may fix the problem?
Anybody else have a similar problem?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
J

I just tried NVIDIA's drivers and nothing. I also tried drivers
for my monitor from Viewsonic. Any chance the monitor isn't
compatiable (it works great for regular use, just the movies crash)
Any other suggestions?

I bet your running an AMD processor..I had the same problem, had to buy a better PS unit, got an Enermax 431w one and the problem went away.
Then got rid of the AMD and got a P4 and the stock 250w PS unit works fine

Well, I've got an Antec sx1040 case w/ a 400w power supply.
Also, an Athlon XP 1700+ running on an Epox 8kha+

I was just messing around with some of the AGP settings
in the BIOS and I got about 1 second of a video clip, but
then scrambled and froze up, so I changed everything back.

I've gotta stop with this for a couple days because I've got
two exams tomorrow and then a drive from SC to NJ on Saturday.

However, if anyone has any bright ideas I would be greatful.

i have also had a similar problem

i have:

epox 8kha via kt266 MB w/ 266 FSB
amd athalon xp 1600+ currently @ 133X10.5=1.4GH
512MB Crucial Micron DDR RAM
gainward Geforce 3 Ti 200 at normal settings

my screen will blank out in similar situations as u describe, plus i cannot play counter-strike or half-life. The only time i can get something graphically challenged to play is if i set my resolution to 640X480 with a 60 refresh rate.

But I cannot play any games at this setting or any other.

I have tried the drivers from the my cd rom, from gainward.com, from nvidia.com, nothing will work, i have read of other people having similar problems also with these mb/cpu/gpu combinations....hopefully they will put out a patch soon....

i also have the newest 4 in 1 patch from via....

any help?????

All I know is that if there isn't a patch in the next 27 days, then I'll be
sending this card back to Newegg and getting something that doesn't
have a conflict.

I haven't gotten a chance to read any of the postings yet because of exams,
but the VIA forum has some postings from a VIA employee. I did see a beta
driver they were offering with no liability. I read the first few postings, and it
seemed like it worked for some and made it worse for others. I'm not brave enough
to try it an risk screwing things up. It's not worth it since I don't use video or games
on a regular basis.

Here's the link. I got it out of one of the other posts here at Anandtech.

VIA Forum

If you try it the beta drivers, then please let me know how you did.

I have a home built PC dual partition with W2k and XP.
Motherboard: ASUS P4B
CPU: P4 1.4
RAM: 2x128mb PC133
Video: VisionTek Geforce3 200 Ti

Originally configured with WinME and W2k the system worked fine, after I upgraded to XP I started having problems with Games and videos. The PC still works in W2k but in XP it fails the DXdiag.exe (DirectX Diagnostic Tool) - Test Direct 3D. Have pulled all other cards, reloaded OS, updated to latest nVIDIA drivers 2.3.11, problem still exists. Flashed Bios to ver 1005, did not flash to 1004. Put video card in another PC with XP and runs fine.

I have been reading some treads on Sharkyforums.com and see that other people are experiencing the same problem. This may not be Motherboard or Video card related but a driver issue.

Can anyone provide any feedback on where or what is the Detonator Destroyer?
