GeForce 2 MX400 on WinXP

I have an Abit Siluro Geforce 2 MX400, I downloaded the WinXP drivers from Abit and from Nvidia. When I try to install them windows complains that they have not been digitally signed. At first I ignored this and went ahead and installed the nvidia drivers. The problem is even before I had the XP drivers installed, the computer just plain refuses to play any games, crashing the whole computer within a couple of minutes of loading them up. Same applies for both drivers??? Does anyone have any suggestions??

I have the same card running under Windows XP using the Nvidia Detonator XP drivers and it works fine. The problem must lie somewhere else. What are you system specs?

Specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7VTXE
CPU: Athlon 1600+ XP
RAM: 256MB DDR RAM
HARD DRIVE: 30GB Western Digital 100ATA
GFX card: Abit Siluro MX400, with latest bios

Do the games load? And you can play for a bit and then they crash? Describe how it crashes? Does XP stay up and close the game down or does the whole PC freeze?

Game loads, plays for about a maximum of 10 minutes. Then the whole computer freezes and it eventually restarts itself. Thats basically it, the error reporting thing for XP reckons it something to do with the drivers, but you guys don't seem to get the same problem so I don't know.

ps

On diff comp now just in case ur wondering why the username has changed.

You can log in on multiple computers with the same user name you know 😉

Sounds like a heat problem, but I don't think it could be. The Siluro is only passively cooled and mine sits in an uncooled Micro ATX case which has an average temp of about 40C! And is perfectly fine. Still it's a possibility worth looking into a suppose. Maybe the heatsink has not been fitted properly. Do you have any case cooling?

What do you have your AGP settings set to in the BIOS...eg AGP Aperture size, AGP 2X/4X etc. If it's set to 4X you could try 2X.

Other than that you could try some earlier revisions of the Nvidia driver.

I had a Gainward GF2 MX400 and I had tons of probs in XP. I found the easiest way to fix this is to buy a GF3! 😉
EDIT: my GF2 would crash in games after about 10 mins also.

GF3 yeah sure as long as you buy it for me. Also it's not a heat prob the system temp is about 29C so I doubt it somehow, it seems to happen with all versions aswell.
