This is my current system:

PIII-500
256MB SDRAM
9.6GB/33 HDD
Diamond Stealh iii s540

am deciding on which to buy? can't get the radeon coz it ain't available in my country.
which will fit in my system more, the system is mostly used for games. The DDR will allow me to play games at 32bit in hi res, but the MX has 2nd generation T&L. need suggestions...thanks

Go for the MX. Your processor will be the bottleneck anyway, so you might as well go with the card with more features, the MX.

If you're willing to overclock the RAM on the MX to about 200MHz then it would be almost as fast as the DDR. The MX also consumes significanly less power then the DDR which makes it much cooler. The MX is by far the best deal of the two, from a price/performance standpoint.

The DDR on the other hand is the fastest and if you want the absolute best framerates then it's the one to go for. Read Anand's GeForce2 MX review and his GeForce2 MX Overclocking article for more info. Hope this helps. :)

yeah, i was thinkin of the MX coz of the features.:)
Whats the next good mx card after the prophet? there's an ASUS mx here but its almost as expensive as the GforceDDR, $150.

btw, will oc'ing the memory of the card heat it up?

thanks btw:cool:

The DDR has stability problems due to high power requirements, especially with older motherboards like yours. Get the GF2 MX.

Don't know if it is available in your country, but I have been happy with my A-Open Geforce 2 MX. Available in US for $99 plus shipping from multiwave One of the cheaper Geforce 2 MX cards but does ship with a heatsink installed.

Geforce 2 series is newer technology, has more features than old Geforce.
Even Geforce 2 MX is slower than Geforce DDR in some areas,
it's still a better buy than Geforce DDR.

Only feature MX has over GeForce DDR is twinview. If you don't need it, go for the GeForce DDR. Difference between GeForce and GeForce2 T&L units isn't noticeable unless you use high-end OpenGL applications, and in terms of supported 3D-features GeForce and GeForce2 MX/GTS/Ultra are identical. Furthermore, since GF DDR is much faster than GF2/MX it's a no-contest IMO.

This is assuming you can get the DDR at a reasonable price; most resellers no longer carry the discountinued product. If they are asking even 20% more than an MX, you're probably better off with the MX, and the extra cash in your pocket for a future upgrade.

The GeForce256 DDR would be faster in high res games...but personally I'd go with the MX, I didn't like the GF-256 much...

The DDR is faster, and I've had no problems on my "old" ABIT BH6. So long as you run it on an intel chipset you won't see ANY problems... the problems can be in some VIAs and such, but I couldn't tell you which ones are good or bad.
If the MX is cheaper, go for it... runs cooler, plenty fast enough, less power, better hardware compatibility... yeah, I agree with the guys here.
OTOH, if they're the same price, the DDR is a very viable option.

I think with your setup, the Geforce 2MX is better, unless you are planning to run games at 1024x768 32 bit or higher in any colour depth, it's a very fast card..

definately get one with a heatsink if you are going to overclock, like the A-open or Elsa cards. avoid the Creative one because it has 64 bit DDR, which is slower than 128 bit SDR and it has no heatsink.
