Geforce 2 MX\400

Hi all, quick question, I am about to pull the trigger on a LCD for the folks, but unsure whether or not to get 19" WS 16.10 or 17" 5.4.

My question is does the old Geforce support the 1440x900 res? (XP).

I have seen a message on NV forums concerning a driver patch for win 98/me WS, but cant find any solid info......

I would presume it does, but it would suck if I got the WS and couldnt get WS on the GPU...

NV pc scan says I have the latest driver for the card.

I'm kind of amused that I'm not the only one who still has one of these relics...

Sorry, can't answer your question though - last monitor I used it with was either 800x600 or 1024x768. Even at that res, it was indeed a slide show with Sims 2.

My old GF2 card didn't have any problem with that resolution for 2D/desktop - it is a function of the driver and the OS recognising the monitor correctly (pnp .inf).

For older folks, possibly with poor eyesight, a larger pixel pitch may be desirable. FWIW:

17" 5:4 = 1280x1024, pitch 0.263
19" 16:10 = 1440x900, pitch 0.284
19" 5:4 = 1280x1024, pitch 0.294

Hi guys and girls...I have been doing some research, and it doesnt look promising. The las\latest drivers 93.19 (from memory) have the 16x12 and more, however not the non standard ws resolutions of 14x9 & 16x10?.

I'm almost positive it should work fine. I just hooked up a customer's computer yesterday that had an Nvidia TNT2 video card and it worked fine on a 22" Hanns-G at native widescreen resolution. It looked like crap, but it worked 😉

Oh...well, I swapped a Radeon 9250 in there just to be sure, and pulled the trigger on the 19"WS. Just for a laugh though, I will test with the GF2 MX and let you know.

Thanks all.

it'll definitely work...it ran 1600x1200 for me so i would assume anything under would be just fine. and yes blurry is right - use powerstrip just to be sure.

Oh fuck me gently with a chainsaw! I thought I was the only one who had that monitor!
I'm using it with a Radeon X800 Pro.

Also, lyssword is correct. There were widescreens out long before LCD's hit the market.
Sony made quite a few widescreen CRT's. If you dig around on the internet you may be able to find that one huge bastard that ran 2560x1920 (or whatever it was). I think it weighs a hundred pounds.

According to this article, GeForce 3's would not work in widescreen, but GeForce 4's (even the MX's) would do it.

They also got a Radeon 7500 to do the same thing.

EDIT: Wait, I read that article a little further and apparently they got newer GF3's and even GF2's to do it, provided they had the right firmware.

Ha! I love my HP L2335. Back in the day, I paid a pretty penny for it (around $1,500) but that was before Dell and 24" monitors were out.

fwiw - HP has finally decided to come out with a replacement for the L2335. A 24" w/ IPS Panel - http://techreport.com/discussions.x/15851 (half way down the article)
