I got this ivdeo card, which already had a "cool-mate" cooler on it, but it kinda sucks. I just got a blue orb, and I need to know how to take off the old cruddy heatsink. I already cut off the two little things on the sides, but I think there is some thermal compound on it too.

Any suggestions on how to get it off? Anyone seen any sites with a guide or something?

Put it in an anti-static bag, throw it in the freezer for a half hour, & pop it off with a butter knife. It works beautifully.

Maybe not the safest way, but i did 2 MX's like this, run the card for 30min to an hour doing something graphics intensive like a game demo loop, then shutdown, pull the card and find the angle to the heatsink chip which has no transistors or few... put a letter opener or screw driver blade right at the edge of chip and heatsink, and a quick prying twist should pop it right off... the main problem with this method is to not crush any transistors or scratch the PCB while doing it... good luck

Stick it in a zip lock bag (doens't have to be antistatic dude..lol..its not going to get fried in the freezer). and freeze it for 15 mins...take a paper towel and wrap it around a butter knife..near the AGP connector very softly wedge it back and forth until its loose, then use a twisting motion with your hand to twist it off. Then use some rubbin alcohol or finger nail polish remover and take the residue off.

Well..I FINALLY got it off! I have already installed the blue orb with arctic silver, and it is up and running! I am so proud of myself ;)

Thanks to everyone who responded!

Hmmm, I recently bought a geforce 2 gts cooling kit from 2cooltek.com and they recommended taking a pair of channel locks and giving it a, and I quote, "disturbing twist" on the heatsink to remove it. Glad I saw this post before I tried that. Thanks guys.
