Well, today I went to 5 different Toyota dealerships to help my friend buy a car.

Very simple, we were looking for a Red Corolla LE /w just the automatic option.

Every dealer, I called ahead of time and they claimed to have it. Once we got there, there were none and regardless of what I tell the sales rep, he'll drag us around the whole lot saying how great the silver or white is or another model is. One dealership said they had it and it's at a storage lot.. after discussing prices, the dealership didn't have it.. a good waste of a hour.

By the 5th dealer, I asked the guy to go out and check while he's on the phone. He "checked (5 minute process)" and said they have it, by this time I was a bit stressed out .. driving across town 3 times back n forth... so I said "you are sure!? I am going to drive a far distance! What is your name?" He said, "ofcoarse, I see it right here." I go and it's not there. The dealership offered different colors and how they can give me a good price.. blah blah I just love it when they say, "I'll give it to you for invoice" and their invoice is $100 below MSRP. Even after showing them paper work what the invoice is, they claim that is below their cost and the internet is full of crap.

I'm interested in cars and thought at times it would be fun to sell cars, but Today's experience made me think a car sales rep is the lowest anyone can go. Terrible experience... Lie, Trick, Customer satisfaction? yea right.

A few facts for you, b/c I'm a nice guy.

1. All dealers lie, cheat, steal and will say anything to get you to actually COME TO the dealership.
2. See #1
3. In a low-buck car like a Corolla, or Civic or Sentra, there's not a lot of money to be made to begin with, so they won't negotiate too much.
4. Research your potential car on Edmunds.com and find out the TMV (True Market Value) on it and make an offer accordingly. Find out things like incentives and holdbacks that the dealer wont' mention. (See #1)

Good luck!

I always get the creeps around car salepeople.... I honestly think there is nothing they won't do or say to sell a car.

I love the "what's it going to take to get you to drive this car home today sir?" Yikes!
