Hi everyone,

It may not be important to a lot of people, but ... is it possible to put a light into a glove box? More specifically, the glove box of a 2003 Honda Civic SI? What's the wiring like under there?

There's no light in it already? Weird...my Accord has a lighted glovebox. You are talking about a convenience light, right? Not some sort of fancy glowstick/blacklight under the glovebox?

Actually many manufacturers have been doing away with the glove box light. They expect you to turn on your dome light to see.

Yes it can be done; it is possible that you car could have the wiring all ready there.

It could be a simple as asking the parts department at you dealership if the car, Civic, ever came with a glove box light.

No if it doesn't at all, i.e. no civic came a with that option, then running a power and ground circuit to a light and then add a switch to either circuit to turn it on or off.

Yeah, that's almost like taking the sun visors out of your car so you can't see while you drive! There's no way I could see into my glovebox without the light inside.

I know! It's a brand new 2003 Civic SI, and there's no light in it! It has a nice grocery cargo net though! I'm certain the bulb's not out...

It is done as a cost save. A big three car company, that I work for, did a survey on this and found out that most people would even notice their car doesn't have a glove box light. I noticed this change even in a model year, 1995 model had it and 1996 model doesn't, and no other change was made to the interior. The funny thing was the owner manual still listed it as a feature.

I just make crap up as I go along, I have no idea if what I said is true or not :p.

Although, I don't recall seeing a light in my wife's Focus and I know my F-150 doesn't have one.

If it doesnt come with a light, thenits no prob. if your stereo is stock, there should be a lead for the glovebox light. Just go to your honda dealer and ask them about it. They should be able to hook you up. Or you could always put one in yourself :), thats what i did with my friends corolla

you could wire a push button switch that would come on when you open it...
don't know if you want to put that much time into it though... would require running wires under the dash and then mounting it to work properly inside the glove box might be tough

Thanks, I'd rather do it myself; how do I know what the lead wire looks like? I'd rather not take it back to Honda. I don't want them to sell me a glove box "wonder kit" with gold emblems. :p

Wow a girl that drives a Civic SI. I know two others but they drive the special edition late 90's model. Either way, hot!

Where could you mount it? It can't just be "hangin" there... The glove box is a basket-tilt kind, not a fixed compartment/door kind. For the whole basket to tilt out, where would I put the light? Hmm..

Hooking up an extra light is not hard. I wired up the light for my boost guage to the back of the guage cluster. It works on the dimmer and everything.
