Geeks Refurbished 24" Soyo LCD (possibly S-MVA) - Back in Stock!

Got mine today. It was shipped in just the box you see on Geek's page (which looked like Fedex had performed acts of cruelty on it). Fortunately, everything seems to work and I haven't spotted any dead pixels yet. There are a couple grey-ish points that stand out on a white background. I *think* this is a MVA panel. The box says 6ms and the colors stay even regardless of viewing angle. Manufactured Sept of 2007.

I'm pleased with what I've seen so far.

Got mine today too. This is my second Soyo (dual 24"), pretty sure it is MVA. No dead pixel, looks good so far. Shipped in the manufactures box and got pretty beat up but the monitor was in good shape. Looks brand new.

It's not just hit or miss with these refurbs but it was hit or miss when they were new and s-mva panels. people were having issues with them out of the box. that said, I purchased mine new on black friday a couple years ago and really love my monitor but won't take a chance on this refurb.

I purchased 2 of these monitors to replace my dual Dell FP2000 setup from years ago. The picture quality difference is night and day! Thanks OP!

I did have one problem though. One of the monitors has a few lines of messed up pixels (one line goes across the entire screen, while another goes across about half), and has an overall blue-ish tint. I'm RMA'ing it now. It was not shipped in any sort of protective bag, just two blocks of styrofoam... The second monitor is fantastic though - it looks brand new.

Is there any easy way to tell if these use TN or S-MVA panels? I checked the back of the monitor, etc, and it does not say... although the box mentioned 6ms response time, so I'm guessing that these are S-MVA?

Thanks!

Check the manufacture date listed on the label, that's a start.

I bought two new back in '07, just bought a third that arrived today. So far so good, no dead pixels or weird lines. Same manufacture date as one of my originals, so it's also an s-mva.

Can I ask what the date was? Is there a certain cutoff date for TN vs S-MVA?

All of mine are marked "2007 07" as far as I can tell(one is on an LCD arm and I can't quite read it). No idea when they started the change, but the earlier date the better your chances.

I'm sorry to report that mine has begun to randomly blank the screen (no picture, but blue power LED remains on). A little googling and this appears to be a pretty common problem.

Dang it.

So the last time there was a deal on these, some people were getting glossy screen and some not. What are you guys getting?

Also, when buying a refurb LCD you better not expect all the pixels to be perfect. What do you think they do with the ones people send back because of stuck pixels? Throw them away?

Mine says 3ms on the box, and showed up in a sealed retail package - did they send me a new one instead of refurb (I paid for refurb)?

maybe they saw the 3ms, knew it was a TN, and sent it back without opening it.

My box was marked 6ms, has a tag that marks it as a refurb, but all the packaging was sealed in the same way my original two new ones were. No signs of use, which doesn't mean it wasn't refurbished, just that it was repackaged like a new LCD.

M0RPH, non-glossy screen on mine.

I have no bad pixels on any of the Soyos. Hell, I've only had about 10 bad pixels across ~20 LCDs(used and new) I've owned over the last 5 years, and 3 were on one LCD. Maybe I've been lucky, but it seems like people are overly paranoid.

I just got my replacement monitor after RMA'ing one of my original purchases. Instead of the D6, I got a MT-NI-DYLM24E6. The monitor looks completely different, and supposedly has a 2MS response time. They actually sell this monitor as another product at geeks.com, which they say is OOS... so, is this a TN panel? I'm not super happy since it looks completely different...

Got mine today. Pretty sure it's TN based on the viewing angles, color distortion when changing viewing angles and '3ms' response time. 🙁 I also just realized today that my Dell monitor here at work is a VA of some kind. Somehow I hadn't recognized before how well it does colors and viewing angles. Damnit! Now I'm jealous of my WORK monitor, though it is only a 19".

Overall I suppose I still wouldn't be able to complain since even for a TN panel this is a fairly hot deal. The monitor is in like-new cosmetic condition. One extra tiny problem... I have 1 suck pixel. It's stuck red only when the monitor displays very bright or light colors. When it is black or blue you don't even notice it. I thought this to be odd as I'd assumed stuck pixels always showed up as one color even when the the monitor is in standby?? I tried running the java display fix on it (forcing it to rapidly display many colors) and tried the pressure and tapping methods. So far no go..then again I'm at work. I might give these another try when I get home, but had to at least test it ahead of time. Le sigh, it was almost perfect.

honestly, $170 shipped for a solid 24" is still pretty warm. I got what looks like a brand new one (gently used and refurbished, not at all like the hp 23.5 i ordered before), and it still looks great, though of course a TN panel.

Can you elaborate on the "java display fix" and the tapping fix?

They still have quite a few left. Guess I'll have to order one and take a chance. I'm concerned about the packaging. I just received a motherboard from them and they shipped it in a bubble envelope instead of a box.

Precisely the page I was using, specifically http://www.jscreenfix.com/ which they link to at the bottom. DPT basically uses the same method, a pixel 'exerciser' which is what JScreenFix uses. I haven't tried UDPixel yet but probably will. Nothing seems to have remotely effected it yet.

Received mine today and hooked it up for testing. It was shipped in the original container and was in good condition. No marks on screen or frame. It appears to be a MVA panel based on crispness of resolution and viewing angles. I first hooked it up to a 3250S Gateway desktop I'm rebuilding (previous barebones deal from geeks.com and posted here.) Used VGA and the onboard Intel graphics. Picture looked like crap. Installed a 7600GT PCI-E card and used a Dell DVI cable and now it looks great. No dead or stuck pixels. The DVI cable that came with it was never opened so the original owner must have done the same thing I did originally, LOL. Monitor had a yellow OfficeMax return sticker on it. Manufacture date is 2007 07. Might buy me another one...
