Geeks hast this enclosure for only $17 + shipping.

anybody know whether this will also work with a HDD?
It says it is only for optical drives but it should also work with a harddisk, shouldn't it?

You may need side rails to get the 3.5" drive to fit well in the 5.25" enclosure. But as far as power and IDE connection, just fine for a HDD.

but for $17 + $6 shipping, this is probably the cheapest (cost and maybe quality) out there. this was actualy $16 + shipping only a few days ago.

I would be extremely cautious of this product. It is an ATAPI only USB controller, meaning, ATA/IDE drives (hard drives) will NOT work in it.

REPEAT, IDE DRIVES DO NOT WORK IN THIS ENCLOSURE, ONLY ATAPI.

I have the same enclosure and it kinda works with HD. The back bracket (middle picture) is the only thing that anchors the cd drive. The HD railing is very difficult to attach and there is no padding to prevent damage.
