Meanwhile, domestic critics have excoriated Kerry for his duplicity and doubletalk. If Kerry is true to his word, he would be bringing back Heinz operations to the US and create American jobs. By the same token, the nearly seven million US workers who are employed by foreign companies such as BMW, Toyota and Honda would also lose their jobs if these firms pulled out.
Ask ^ 7 million employees :)

Actually Kerry was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, thanks to relatives.
Heinz isnt the first uber rich woman Kerry has married. His first wife was quite wealthy, more so than he.
Heinz is uber wealthy. Kerry seems to have a thing for uber wealthy women, but he is quite wealthy on his own.

His wife inherited one of the single largest shareholdings in the Heinz company when her husband Republican Senator H. John Heinz III died in a plane crash in 1991. The rhetoric Mrs Kerry has been spewing lately on behalf of John Kerry, has got to make H. J. Heinz III spin in his grave.

he isn't "that" loaded, his wife is but they have a prenup that keeps her estate from ever being his. Kerry has no control over H J Heinz & Co so this article/thread is nothing but a baseless atempt at a cheapshot.

Just trying to get things in the right perspective.

On the one hand we have people complaining about the jobs being lost to overseas. On the other hand we have people (Bush, etc) saying it's a good thing?

No its not. His wife is one of the single largest shareholders in Heinz, and she has been campaigning for him. Its not a cheap shot. He can use half of the ~$150million in jointly owned assests, so $75million, as well. BTW hes already used $12million of that money.

"Outsourcing is just a new way of doing international trade," Mankiw told reporters. "More things are tradable than were tradable in the past and that's a good thing."

If we decided to become protectionist, and alienated our trade parteners. We would lose alot more jobs than outsourcing has cost us. Outsourcing has been around for decades. It really seems no one has complained until phone jockies and a hand full of programmers lost their jobs to Indians. Not to mention right now, outsourcing is statistically insignificant, at well under a fraction of 1%.

You know the answer to that. BUSINESS. Whatever Bus-iness wants, Bus-iness gets. Thanks to Bus-h. Halliburton, case in point.

No, because H J Heinz Co is an international corporation. Like MS, Intel and many other American companies. I dont view outsourcing as a problem. Its just a bunch of hoopla because democrats dont really have all that many issues for the election. Bush isnt the only one up for re-election, and roight now some incumbent democrats are in danger of losing their jobs this fall. Right now the democrats are in serious danger of losing 2-3 Senate Seats, and 7-10 House Seats.

The reason the story is a vaild issue is because of John Kerry's stance.

To marry for money is lucky, to do it twice requires planning. Kerrys 1st wife was not nearly as rich as the heinz family :D

Kerry's wife married the heir to the Heinz empire. I guess you can try to nail Kerry because the business his wife owns stock in is a multi-national company but it is pretty lame and desperate effort.

Well, according to Reagan, catsup is a vegetable. Right? :p

Anyway, I can't seem to get the Times of India to load in my browser - which certainly shows you what you get when you outsource: Crappy quality and inferior performance. In any event, I can't look into this, but two questions immediately come to mind: (A) How much control over Heinz day-to-day ops does Kerry and his wife have, and (B) What's the story with the overseas factories? Meaning, did they purposely locate them there or did they come into ownership through some roundabout means?

Yes, and that's exactly why I said that. Although it was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Somewhat. ;) Why? Are you all offended now because you're from India?

Would someone please explain how John F. Kerry would have any control over day to day and major business operations in Heinz Co.?
