Here they are (for GoW - PC Version):

1. Is there anyway to control Dominic (Dom). He seems to frequently run into battles heads-on, managing to get himself injured so I have to heal him time and again.

2. How do you use the Chainsaw on the Lancer rifle?

The game is really awesome...gotta love the cover system. The last time I really used cover to cover shooting so much was in Full Spectrum Warrior! :)

1. Nope. If you are in coop, then Dom would be controlled by a human which is far better.

2. Hold down melee key to rev it up. Then click when you are near an enemy for cinematic awesomeness. Note: melee on the lancer is overrated since you get interrupted every time you get hit and have to rev it up again. For pure efficiency, use the torque bow's melee. Especially on casual, it's capable of downing a grunt in one hit.

1. You can issue vague commands to your squad like "Attack!" or "Fall Back!" I use the 360 controller, so I'm unsure how to issue the commands with the keyboard. It's explained by a tutorial sometime throughout the game. Note: you can't issue commands to a CPU controlled Dom if you split up, but I believe the computer is invincible during those parts (to prevent you from losing through no fault of your own.)

2. The chainsaw is arguably the most powerful weapon in the game, right up there with the shotgun. Period. It's a one-hit kill on anything that's not a boss or a boomer. Using the controller, you just hold down B to rev it up, then walk within "melee distance" of the enemy and it chops them up good. The crazy thing about it is that it's kind of a vacuum...if you get anywhere near an enemy with it revved up, it will "suck" you towards them and mince them good. Disregard katank's comment about the chainsaw; any serious Gears player knows it is the most OP weapon in Gears next to the shotgun. It is invaluable for dealing with Theron guards on Insane...unless you are a really good shot with the Torque Bow!

In multiplayer, forget about it. The shotgun and the lancer are all you need!

Still have to change the system clock just to play, or did they fix it?

Thanks for the input! I tried the melee key with the Lancer and the chainsaw worked. :)

I'm on Act II now and the battles have been excellent so far. Damn....I had a tough time with that darn Berserker on the last part of Act I! Looks like I can give only basic commands to my squad like Attack, Cease Fire and Re-group. However, Dom and the other squad members are dying less now since now I have had a bit of experience playing this game, getting better in eliminating the enemy forces faster.

Huh, on the 360 it made you invincible while sawing something to death.

Good luck closing on them with the chainsaw revved up. You'll be shot to death while trying to rev it up again and again. You are just way too fragile to close w/ the chainsaw much of the time.

Furthermore, against the exploding lambant (sp?) wretches and so on, using the chainsaw prevents you from getting out of the blast. Boltok or torque bow melee is the way to go.

Chainsaw does have its use against theron guards on higher diff levels though. Although some of those come with lancers too. They might saw you up also. Better to just blast them w/ a shotgun.

You think you just walk around with the chainsaw revved all the time? Interesting...

I've beaten the game multiple times on Insane, on both the 360 and the PC.

I take it you haven't played much multiplayer, either. The shotgun and the lancer are consistently the best weapons, especially if you have host advantage. The only other weapon worth mentioning is the Longshot, with headshots and 1-hit downs with an Active Reload.

I was with you till that part. I have a couple friends (360) that are nearly unstoppable with the bow.

All the weapons are good situationally IMO e.g. If someone is firing a lancer at me, I will win the majority of those duels with just the COG pistol. The boomshot with an active is to be respected (many remove it from their matches for that reason aka cheap kill)

The only thing I hated was the frag taggers, until they patched it so that they couldn't hit you with it from 6ft away (same with the chainsaw)

The Torque Bow is so rare on the default settings that it's not really worth mentioning.

You start with the shotgun and the Lancer every match. There is usually a Longshot on every match too.

Sure, every weapon is SITUATIONALLY good, but the shotgun, Lancer and Longshot are by and large the most useful and powerful weapons. They are very common and extremely effective.

I rarely run into anyone hosting that leaves defaults, except novices (snipe and bow are very popular with many hosts IME) so "not worth mentioning" is purely your opinion based on your experience, and does not reflect mine. YMMV or IMO/E is a good qualifier for that type of comment, otherwise it sounds authoritative, which it is not.

"Usually a longshot every match" is my experience too, snipers from other games transition quickly to it based on their past proclivities. I have a friend that sniped in Halo1&2 that can't live without the snipe in Gears 1&2, It is his security blanket :D

By default, it's the way the maps are. The way the devs intended them. Yes, people all the time put Longshots, Boomers and Torque Bows in the place of Hammerbursts and pistols. Doesn't make it good or right!

Besides, I don't remember since I haven't played for a while, but I don't believe you can change the map defaults in Ranked matches?
