First off, this has nothing to do with whether the ticket was warranted or not.

But Dude, if you screw up, and miss your turn, go straight, come back around and take your turn then.

Don't be a D1CK and turn on your right turn signal and stop to wait for someone to let you in to make your turn.

Remember, it's you that fvcked up, not everyone behind you.

I hate selfish people like you. :|

Keep in mind this is at a red light, so I signal and someone lets me in and I turn right. 20 yards down the road I look in my rear-view to see a white unmarked car with it's lights on, "It's all good, what did I do, he's probably trying to get past me" is what I think as I move to the side of the road, as he follows I realise "no f-ing dice" so I turn into the first parking lot.

I kill my car, turn down the radio, roll down my window and put my hands on the dash waiting for the officer. "I pulled you over because you took a right turn from a left lane". WTF?!? That doesn't even make any sense. "You see officer, I'm in a big rush and I'm not familar with the city and I had to get over". "Let me see your license and registration "is all he says. "But"... I'm left with words in my mouth as he walks away to his car. He comes back 10 minutes later with a ticket for $135. :|

At this point I realise that I can't do jack and accept it and drive off.

There are a few points of interest:
I can't make out what the actual charge is on the ticket, I know what he told me "taking a right turn from a left turn only lane" but I can't imagine that anybody else will be able to make the offense out. I plan on contesting this charge in court, hoping that he won't show up or that I'll be able to explain my side to a judge, but if nobody can tell what the charge is and the cop doesn't show up do I get out of it?
Also, I know that this is a hit or miss thing, but he did say that I was pulled in the PM when I was pulled in the AM. If I was somehow able to prove that I wasn't in my car this evening at that time would I be able to get out of it?

Now I'm all for accepting responsiblity for my actions and if I had done something that I actually thought was illegal I would have no problem manning up and eating the fine. I'm really pissed that the cop didn't even listen to what I had to say. Of course I saw a cop every mile and there were many people on the side of the road having been pulled. I guess it's time to start the new year off with some new money for the city.

Even if I don't get out of it what are my chances of having the charge reduced and if not what kind of points am I looking at for my insurance, if any?

Good luck getting sympathy from this crowd. Be prepared for an argument on how you deserved it.

Were there two or three lanes?

one to turn left and one to turn right / go strait
OR
one to turn left, one to go strait, and one to turn right

If you were not at the stop line and you signaled to enter the strait / right turn lane. However if you crossed two lanes of traffic then your ticket should have been for double lane change or whatever it is called. This ticket should not stand if you were behind the stop line when you changed lanes from the left turn lane and were still behind it after doing so.

probably wrong but just my thought on the subject

You cannot change lanes within 100 ft/yards (can't remember which) of an intersection. Don't know if this has been posted, but that's what I've been told.

you are allowed to cross a solid white line, its just not recommended, or something you should make a habit of doing, thats what i learned in drivers ed about 3 months ago. you are not allowed to cross a solit yellow line.

for example, on the highway, there is a solid white line on the right, and a solid yellow on the left. you are not supposed to pull over on the left, because you cross the yellow line, but you can cross on the right to pull over.

Eat your own words and own up. What you THINK is illigal is irrelevant as you clearly violated the traffic rules.
I get the impression that it's quota day and the cop saw an easy "ticket". The cop didn't listen to a word I said.

What is illegal about changing lanes and turning?

There are no "quotas".
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!

What's so hard to understand about "left turn only"?
"Left-turn only" means: don't go straight or turn right. I didn't think it mean't that you couldn't change out of the lane.

If it does then I am clearly in the wrong, but I don't think it does.

Again, what you "think" is irrelevant. Is the word "only" that hard to comprehend?

I see reading comprehension is not your friend. He did NOT turn right from a left turn only lane. He was in the left turn only lane. He used his signal to change lanes to the right lane. He then used his signal to turn right. He did NOT swerve from the left hand lane into the side street.

You should take a refresher course. Since when does "only" means "sometimes"? I don't care if he used a signal, blew horn, and waived at the same time. He performed an illegal maneuver and was nailed for that.

Wow you must not have been driving for long, eh?

Just because you're in a lane that says left turn only does NOT mean that you can not change your lane. Go take a refresher course.

Proof?

quote strings FTW!

Here is what the judge you face will probably ask. "Did you cross a solid line across 2 lanes of traffic in less then X amount of feet (in many states you have to signal 100-150ft before a turn or lane change.)"

"Yes sir, But.."
"Guilty."

That varies by state, as BigJ said:

Here is what the DMV site says for NYS.

Single solid line: You may pass other vehicles or change lanes, but you should do so only if obstructions in the road make it necessary or traffic conditions require it.

Now it seems the OP must show there were obstructions (doesn't appear so by the description) or traffic conditions required it. That last part's tricky, but if I had to guess they are just mentioning one of the possible obstruction, wrecked/stalled cars.

I was going to, but they've about all been answered in the thread.
Just for you guys!

3)no, see above

I did not cut across though, there were two lane changes.

two lane changes within 1 car length from the intersection doesn't sound legal to me. There's no way you're making a complete lane change, then making another one, within twenty feet.

Personally, I think that this is how it happened. The pink line is tweakmm's car, looking suspiciously like he's drunk, the blue line is the sweet cop car.
