First, read the thread. Second, there may not be quota's but I know cops and they get pressure put on them if they are an "underperforming" officer. What the hell do you think that means?

I really don't see anything wrong with commanding officers wanting the people they're in charge of to actually enfore the laws that so many people break on a daily basis.

This would be a non-issue if the majority of people just stopped breaking the law.

Well, kids, the morale of the story is 3 lefts is a helluva lot cheaper than 1 right.

I moved into the right lane with signal.

And then from the right lane, you turned right onto the next street?
Bingo!

This seems to be one of the rare exceptions where, if everything you say is true, you did nothing wrong.

First, I read the thread and it begins with "So I'm in the left turn lane". Second, I don't know how well you know cops, if any, but the ones I do are in police union, noone, inlcuding Chief and mayor can impose such ridiculous requirements on them. Had they tried, it would be made public faster then a first ticket written.

Yes, "offically".

You bet your ass if an officer isn't pulling anyone over he's going to get grilled by his superiors.

It's a bad thing for superiors to want their officers to enfore the law?

No. What you say sounds good in theory, but you know and I know that it's for the money.

Every single time with you people.

It's not a holier than thou attitude, it's a "I'm a man and will pay my ticket after I broke the law instead of trying everything in my power to cheat the system to get out of it" attitude.

Also, there are officially no quotas, and even if there were, they normally don't start off the beginning of a month nailing people with tickets. It's normally towards the end of the month where you see a rise in tickets.

where did he say he cut perpendicular across lanes, cause I must have missed that part.

Soooo pissed.

So I'm in the left turn lane and I realise that I need to turn right. Keep in mind this is at a red light, so I signal and someone lets me in and I turn right. 20 yards down the road I look in my rear-view to see a white unmarked car with it's lights on. "It's all good, what did I do, he's probably trying to get past me" is what I think as I move to the side of the road, as he follows I realise "no f-ing dice" so I turn into the first parking lot.

I kill my car, turn down the radio, roll down my window and put my hands on the dash waiting for the officer. "I pulled you over because you took a right turn from a left lane". WTF?!? That doesn't even make any sense. "You see officer, I'm in a big rush and I'm not familar with the city and I had to get over". Let me see your license and registration is all he says. But... I'm left with words in my mouth as he walks away to his car. He comes back 10 minutes later with a ticket for $135. :|

At this point I realise that I can't do jack and accept it and drive off.

There are a few points of interest:
I can't make out what the actual charge is on the ticket, I know what he told me "taking a right turn from a left turn only lane" but I can't imagine that anybody else will be able to make the offense out. I plan on contesting this charge in court, hoping that he won't show up or that I'll be able to explain my side to a judge, but if nobody can tell what the charge is and the cop doesn't show up do I get out of it?
Also, I know that this is a hit or miss thing, but he did say that I was pulled in the PM when I was pulled in the AM. If I was somehow able to prove that I wasn't in my car this evening at that time would I be able to get out of it?

Now I'm all for accepting responsiblity for my actions and if I had done something that I actually thought was illegal I would have no problem manning up and eating the fine. I'm really pissed that the cop didn't even listen to what I had to say. Of course I saw a cop every mile and there were many people on the side of the road having been pulled. I guess it's time to start the new year off with some new money for the city.

Even if I don't get out of it what are my chances of having the charge reduced and if not what kind of points am I looking at for my insurance, if any?

Eat your own words and own up. What you THINK is illigal is irrelevant as you clearly violated the traffic rules.
I get the impression that it's quota day and the cop saw an easy "ticket". The cop didn't listen to a word I said.

What is illegal about changing lanes and turning?

There are no "quotas".
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!

What's so hard to understand about "left turn only"?
"Left-turn only" means: don't go straight or turn right. I didn't think it mean't that you couldn't change out of the lane.

If it does then I am clearly in the wrong, but I don't think it does.

Again, what you "think" is irrelevant. Is the word "only" that hard to comprehend?

I see reading comprehension is not your friend. He did NOT turn right from a left turn only lane. He was in the left turn only lane. He used his signal to change lanes to the right lane. He then used his signal to turn right. He did NOT swerve from the left hand lane into the side street.

No. What you say sounds good in theory, but you know and I know that it's for the money.

Obviously there's a money issue involved in it, but instead of a fine, would you rather have higher point fines on your license, or mandatory community service for a speeding ticket?

It sure would cut down on highway and road maitenance costs.

Of course, nothing is written down. But, regardless of your friends in the FOP, it *does* happen in some places. Fact of life for cops.

Edit: Oh, and I hope that since you read the thread by now, you will realize that the OP made a right turn from a right turn lane.

1) Plead not guilty by mail
2) find your nearest notary... you'll be using it a lot.
3) request trial by affadavit
4) file motion for discovery of officer's notes
5) get in touch with the DA via phone and see what he'll offer you in exchange for you just capitulating now (pleading down)
6) if you don't like that, go to court. If you don't get the officers notes in a timley fashion, the case should be thrown out on its ear
7) else the state's case should fall apart on its own when it's realized how absurd the original situation is and you've got a 30-40% chance of the judge tossing it.

Sorry about the spelling. That's what I'd do. Good luck.

Did you make the right AT the intersection (stupid crap in the intersection) or did you get into the right turn lane before the intersection (illegal lane change). You only have a fighting chance at number 7 if it was the latter because the previous is retarded on your part.
Your input is much appreciated sir.
Quite unlike a lot of the other posts in this thread.

How else would he have gotten from being in a left turn lane to to making the right turn?

In his OP, he didn't specify enough to prove either one of us correct or incorrect.

If I plead, I will have points on my license and possibly points on my insurance. In addition to the $135 for the fine and court costs.

OP - It might not hurt for you to append some cliffs to the first post so we stop getting morons asking why you yurned right from the left lane.

Now, was this a 3 lane road, or 2? (I.E. did you have to cross a middle lane before making it to the right?)

You should take a refresher course. Since when does "only" means "sometimes"? I don't care if he used a signal, blew horn, and waived at the same time. He performed an illegal maneuver and was nailed for that.

If you find yourself in the wrong lane just follow the lane and loop around the block or something. You should not be impeding traffic just to save you a minute of convenience. People doing what you did are extremely annoying and dangerous.
