Gb Routers?

Apparently not, at least yet. But, if you already have a router uplinking a 1000Base-TX switch to one of the router ports and using the 1000Base-TX switch to handle your in house networking needs would work.

About Giga : Peer to Peer Giga Home Networks (Current State at mid 2004).

However for LAN.

To get humble Giga add a Giga switch to your "Normal" Router and connect to it the computers that are equipped with Giga NIC.

To get a Robust Giga.

While Basic Giga Hardware is available for reasonable price, the Non-server OSs and the regular Internet parameters are not optimized for Giga.

If you incorporate Basic Internet and Giga in the same network and you want to optimize the Giga you need to use Jumbo Frames and MTU of 9000. However Internet is Optimized around 1450-1500 MTU.
Possible solution.

Buy a regular Router and install a Normal Internet Sharing Network.

Add a Giga NIC (as a second Card) to each computer that you want to be On Giga Network.

Get an inexpensive Jumbo Frame capable Switch (SMC makes one).

Plug all the Giga NICs to the Giga Switch.

Use different IP band and configure the Giga Network as a second Network.

Chances are your internet connection is less than 10 mbit anyway... so why not just use a cheap 10BaseT router for that, and plug it and all of your computers into a $100 16 port 1000BaseT gigabit switch?
 
I already have a linksys router but I also have some lan partys and need to transfer large files across the network. And my new motherboard supports gigabit ethernet so I thought why not.. I would much rather get a Gigbit router then adding another NIC to the other cmputers if at all possilbe. The 1Gb switch could be a possiblity though any links to where i can find one of these?
 
I just ordered and received 3 of the 8 port SMC switches from page, they were shipped promptly, and they have a better shipping policy than newegg by far. They combine the shipping prices down as you would expect. I also ordered some stuf from newegg at the same time, and it all added up as if I had ordered each item seperately:disgust:

It seems that they shifted to the Old Routine that used to plague the NYC Grey Market stores. I.E. you use shipment fees as part of the pricing and marketing ploys. Overpriced item might be sending "Free", and reasonably priced items are padded with shipping cost.

As for Network Hardware I rarely find there a real good deal.

Dlink makes a router with 1000mbps ports on the LAN side and a 10/100 port on the WAN side...
These should do what you're looking for.

Edit: D-Link DGL-4100 and DGL-4300 (wireless G)
But i don't know what that gamefuel technology is worth the extra bling bling
