Gays in the NFL have reached out to Michael Sam to talk?

Why is this even news? BFD if someone is gay. There is a reason why they are called Wide Receivers.

Why would it be earth shattering? Who gives a shit who is gay and who isn't? I hope every NFL player is gay. That should shut you morons up about it.

I actually think Sam will be on a team next year. I think he got a serious ego check this season being drafted to low and not making it, but with some work he will make it on a team. I fully expect quite a few teams to offer him a spot in their training camp.

I dunno about earth shattering, but I would be interested in knowing. It kind of flies in the face of all the gay stereotypes.

Just a little hyperbole on my part, but to know that say for instance, Tom Brady was gay would be something though.

No, it no suprise generally speaking, but in a league which has players only come out AFTER they retire would be news-worthy if several current, impact players were.

Earth shattering? lol

agreed. It would be another necessary pin removed from the damn of ignorance.

It might even induce an infarction in that mumu-wearing Limbaugh cow that sits in his comfy living room sound studio. This would be a service to humanity.

The only thing that would "be something" about Tom Brady being gay is that he went through such lengths to hide it. He married to a supermodel and has 3 children.

There might be some teams that would benefit from some additional depth, but from what I've seen, he just didn't have enough yet to be a first string or even a backup. He could be used as a situation pass rusher (think 3rd and long player), but that is limited use. With that said, everything coming from the Cowboys about his time on the practice squad points to him being a very hard worker and I think he will make it next year somewhere.

Why?

He's on the low end of defensive ends, and he couldn't make the Rams final cut over an undrafted guy.

Because I think he's a good player, and was only held out because he was gay.

Of course, he had a LOT of help in college getting the Co-defensive player of the year award, true, but bad players don't get drafted. Out of 256 (?) spots, he was taken over hundreds of other players who are either gonna sign as rookie FA's, or not have a career altogether.

Really?

Why has he not sued for wrongful termination then?

Because, only idiots actually think that. He was drafted by a team with an already stacked D-line and for the few (one IIRC) available spots got beat out by an undrafted FA. His measurables weren't up to par with what people expect. He wasn't fast enough for his size (too slow) and he wasn't strong or large enough for his lack of speed (too small). He was a 'tweener', or 'inbetweener'. He also seemed to have the attitude that being openly gay is what was holding him back, but after being in the NFL for awhile (on a practice squad), it looks like it humbled him enough to realize he wasn't the 2nd or 3rd round pick he believed he should have been. He was, at best, a situational pass rusher.

If anything, I believe the Rams picked him to make a point in history and a statement about their organization more than they needed him. A few teams were reportedly interested in him, but not willing to use a draft pick and attempt to pick him up in free agency. Since the Rams took his rights and by the time he was cut (last cut before the final 53 roster), the teams interested already had other prospects they liked. Dallas, seeing a potential need in their awful defense, picked him up as a practice player in case they needed him. It didn't work out there, as they ended up not needing him, and eventually needed LBs instead and had to cut him.

Damn it, you ruined it with logic.

I was waiting for Retro Bobs enlightened reply. 😀

Everyone knows that just because you say you are good, you really are good. Sam is a perfect example of this. He said he should have been drafted in the first 4 rounds, so it must be discrimination against gays, not the fact that he is a mediocre D lineman at best.

Well, a former coach has much more credibilty (Tony Dungy), who stated he wouldn't pick up a gay player.

No current NFL coach would say that nowdays. Of course Sam was a "tweener", but how many bad players are still on teams this year, or are signed everyday?

I think the Rams are the exception, but a constant scapegoat because they were stacked already.

And fwiw, I didn't intend to say that his sexuality was the only reason, but when a player is marginal, that can be used as one hell of an excuse.

Tony Dungy is a fucking idiot. If he thinks a player's sexual orientation has anything to do with how good he is at football and how much (or little) he can help a team, he is a fucking idiot.

Nobody, except people with a problem with homosexuals, cared Michael Sam was gay the minute after he was drafted. The world not stuck in 1920 said "Wow! It's about time. Good for him." and it was done with.

Of course he's an idiot now, because it contradicts your point you were making.

Dungy didn't want distraction, IIRC (and you can correct me on that)...I don't think he said anything about his abilities, or lackthereof.

But if there are still closeted gays in the NFL, your point is still moot. Once these players are out and open AND STILL PLAYING then you can say his sexuality has nothing to do with it.

Tony Dungy is an idiot because he prefers to pass up on players due to something outside their football abilities and personal conduct. He chooses to discriminate based on sexual orientation, which makes him a bigot and a fucking idiot.

Players not coming out while playing is because of idiots like Dungy still existing. Players keep their sexuality a secret due to fear of losing their job because they were born different.

You've basically made my point, and are contradicting yourself at the same time.

How?

You claimed Sam's sexuality didn't have anything to do with it, THEN you turn and say that gays are scared and closeted because they may lose their jobs because of bigots like Dungy who are still in football.

Which it is, Smack?

Stop talking out of both side of your mouth.
