The problem here is that moron put that she was a lesbian in her profile. She should be banned for trying to stir up trouble for no reason, not because she is or isn't a lesbian. I've never read anyone's profile and found their sexual orientation listed because that would be ridiculous. Who cares? Be a lesbian all you want but you don't need to broadcast it.

I agree with this to a certain extent. XBlive is not the forum to express your sexual orientation. Take that shit to Myspace/Facebook/Twitter

While I agree with you here as well, I think it's more ridiculous that people took it upon themselves to look at her profile then get on her case about it. You aren't forced to look at profiles, in fact you have to go through a couple menus to see them. It's their own fault they checked, and it's disgusting if they really harassed her about it. It doesn't belong in your live profile no, but it's also not a reason to get offended.

She had gay in her tag which I feel would entice one to click her profile.

Ok not that I care if she had it in her profile, but why does ANYONE on Xbox live need to know that she is a lesbian? No one puts "Straight" in their profile. Don't see the need to advertise it.

Can you put that you're a black person in your profile, or Asian? If that is acceptable then so is listing your sexual orientation AFAIK.

No offense, but there are plenty of appropriate ways to answer these kinds of questions to young children should they ask. I've done it with mine successfully. It really isn't that difficult. The only reason why one might think it is difficult to do is because the topic is still considered taboo in some sense, but it doesn't have to be that way.

I think he was being facetious. See the comment about his 3 year old playing GTA IV. 😉
Doubtful.
Plenty of American parents are OK with extreme violence and swearing, but god forbid you should teach your kids about something healthy and natural like sex.
And I wouldnt be suprised at all the 3 year old prodigys out there playing video games.

MS responds

"As stated in the Xbox Live Terms of Use, a member may not create a gamertag or use text in other profile fields that include comments that look, sound like, stand for, hint at, abbreviate, or insinuate content of a potentially sexual nature. Profiles that do are asked to change the language and suspended until changes are made. In regards to sexual orientation, for gamertags or profiles we do not allow expression of any type of orientation, be that hetero or other. Players can, however, self identify in voice communication where context is more easily explained to all players involved.

"Harassment of any kind is not condoned and is taken very seriously; we strongly encourage Xbox Live members to immediately report inappropriate behavior through the compliant tools in the service so that it can be investigated and the appropriate action taken."

"The Xbox Live community grows daily, and we continue to explore methods and levels of enforcement to enhance the ways our members connect and have fun, while adhering to a code of conduct that encourages respect and keeps the service safe and fun for all our members."

MS has also asked the lady to come forward and contact them so they can investigate the matter directly.

In this case, everyone but MS was wrong. The girl was wrong for breaking the TOS and putting her sexual orientation in her profile. The idiots that harassed her were wrong for being idiots and harassing her.

QFT I agree. Microsoft is not in the wrong here.

This. you have to accept worthless kids will be on XboX live, with their worthless pre-pubescent understanding of the world. That, and their worthless parents that allow them on....

EDIT: yes, I understood your post was a joke the first time I read it. And it's funny because it's true.

They followed me into the games and told all the other players to turn me in because they didn't want to see that crap or their kids to see that crap.

Some people are so goddamn stupid...I swear.

To own the frickin' Consumerist even more:

The guy who manages the policy and his official response. Oh and:

http://glaadblog.org/2009/02/2...-online-gaming-policy/

GLAAD has been working with Sony/Microsoft on this in the past and supports the decision made.

This needs to be repeated:
?The story doesn?t entirely add up-mostly because The Consumerist prefers to hit copy+paste than do any research or fact-checking (no user name? no request from Microsoft for a response? hello libel?), but also because the way Xbox Live works, this user wouldn?t have necessarily broadcast her sexual preference as described. But a user can find him/herself temporarily banned if a boatload of people send complaints through Xbox Live?s reporting system??

The consumerist is no better than the companies they criticize. If they examined themselves, they'd realize they do the same things they attack other companies for doing.

I got perma-banned from the Consumerist when I questioned their jounalistic integrity after they accused Goldman Sachs of ripping off non-profit organizations with fees based on the claims of one anonymous Goldman Sachs employee who claimed to have done it himself.
