March 31st is gay awareness day at my college.
So all the gays are putting up signs cause they want people to show their support.
How do they show support?
They want everyone to wear 'Jeans'
Well, over half of the student population already wears jeans daily. Thus, by asking people to support gay day by wearing jeans is just dumb.
They should have picked something better in order for them to get people to support their gay day.

THere should be a skully day, or carry-your-AK-to-class day, or a spill-beer-all-over-my-white-khakis day.Originally posted by: AEnigmaWI
Jeans Day was originally a nationally organized activist event, where signs declaring that it was "Jeans Day" were put up the night before, so that people would be surprised by them the next day. The idea was to get people that were supportive in on it, and surprise other people by how many people were wearing jeans on the day the event took place. Some people at my college made a point of changing into khakis (one whole fraternity as I recall).
There was dissent about the event because it really isn't all that effective, since many people are oblivious to it being Jeans day and don't care one way or the other. So organizers decided to advertise it farther ahead, and make it sort of a general support of gay people day insead of an event meant to make people "think" about how many gay people there were , or how many people supported them.
This event is also related to the day of silence project, where gay students and their supporters go through the day not speaking, and wearing a name badge and carrying fliers that explain their choice of silence to reflect the loss there would be of gay people weren't around or something..
All of these things are born out of the past where there was far greater stigma and taboo associated with being gay. At this point, most college campuses, save very conservative ones, are generally supportive of gay students, and the atmosphere that created the need for activist events is sort of fading away. Hence sort of half-baked attempts at recreating said events. IMHO![]()
