gays at my college are dumb

March 31st is gay awareness day at my college.

So all the gays are putting up signs cause they want people to show their support.

How do they show support?

They want everyone to wear 'Jeans'

Well, over half of the student population already wears jeans daily. Thus, by asking people to support gay day by wearing jeans is just dumb.

They should have picked something better in order for them to get people to support their gay day.

I think you missed the point...

Actually, it is pretty smart. They can claim that everyone wearing jeans is supporting them, even though most of the people just wore jeans for no reason that day. It makes their minority look like a majority. 😛

What data? Are they going to stand there and count every single person wearing jeans? If you don't like the idea, don't wear jeans.

I agree. The GLBT union at TCNJ did the same thing. It was something along the lines of "Wear Jeans and a T-Shirt to show your support!"

They should choose something that people will consciously choose to wear. And it's not so that anyone gets the wrong idea. It raises awareness. You see a lot of people walking around campus wearing rainbow-colored armbands and you realize that not everybody thinks that gay people are out to get them. If people are just supposed to wear jeans, well then you really don't learn anything by that since at a college probably half the people on campus are wearing jeans at any given moment.

I'm not sure whether to think their choice of "support insignia" for awareness day is smart or dumb. . .

On the one hand, since jeans are popular among most people, it can be assumed that most people will be wearing jeans that day making it appear that support for the cause is huge. . . bonus for them.

On the other hand, many people will be wearing jeans just as though it were any other day, not actually in support of LGBT people, making the entire activity sort of pointless if anyone really wishes to make a point that day.

Guess it depends on which effect the coordinators are going for.

As long as they aren't doing some stupid march or blocking anyone's way, I don't give a fsck what they do.

(I can't stand anyone who does stupid marches/protests/other bullsh!t. This includes gays, jesus freaks, hippies, pot smokers, etc...)

SODA (sexual orientation diversity association) at my college did the same thing.
it was near the beginning of the school year though. september or so.

This isn't news. This was done "in my day" and I graduated in 1991. Funny thing was I went to an ivy league school where everyone wore khakis...
