Gay pride rainbow stickers

Kind of a rant here, I'm gettig sick of seeing the gay pride rainbow stickers on cars.

Why do they need to wear their sexual preference like a badge? Yes you're gay good for you, no one cares.

I'm not a homophobe at all. A few in my family are gay, some of my best friends are gay, it's just part of my reality. So your sexual preference is really a non issue. But touting it like something to be displated is different.

Gay equality is a "complex" issue in many peoples view, but if "they" what to be handled completely equal, why do they wear their sexual preference as a symbol of difference?

The same reason some people put greenpeace stickers on their cars, or Calvin pissing on something, or garfield animals in windows.

True, though the social stigma around calvin pissing on a brand name or greenpeace is not really the same as homosexual rights and acceptance.

You might not care, but it's a symbol to show "pride" in what gay people believe in; the same way that a lot of people show their pride in America w/ USA stickers and flags IMO :)

Because homosexuality isn't totally accepted, so it's still a campaign for exceptance. Maybe if someone realizes someone they know is gay because of the sticker, it will change their view on things. Maybe it's just to let their prescence be known.

What's up with these "Fallen Police Officer Family Fund" stickers that people put on their cars? So they support the families of officers killed in the line of duty. So what? Why do they need to wear it on their car?

Because gay guys want to impress other gay guys, and not girls with their cars?
That's about the only explanation I can think of. It's kinda gay.

The difference is -and Im speculating- that a decent amount of the stickers' owners have the stickers to cause problems. Ive known a couple gay people in my short life, and from the ones Ive known they mostly seem to be very pushy about their sexuality, and would make you uncomfortable with how much they bring it up/flaunt it whether they were straight or gay. It seems to be a personality trait of the gay people Ive met atleast.

Yea but it's a sexual preference, not national pride. So they believe in being homosexual, like as a belief, a religion?

True, I understand the still general non-acceptance of being homosexual. Though I would say that the gay pride sticker would be more of a scarlet letter than a sign that says, "hey, this person is gay, give them a chance to prove they are just a person like you!".
Does someone really need a badge to show of what they "are" so people will know how to perceive them at face value?

It's all semantics when you look at it SampSon; sexual preference and national pride is still a belief in the eyes of the beholder IMO :)

Yea, but I don't believe in being straight. That's just my sexuality.

I don't have anything against gays, so don't take it personally.

Fair enough Sampson, so your sexual preference is just the way it is correct?

You gotta admit though, it is kinda stupid and annoying.
Basically yea.
I have been thinking up small slogans that would fit on a sticker to put next to the rainbow stickers.
;)

Yes. Not to say I've never been involved in the other side, but I know my biological sexual preference.
I don't need a sticker on my car to display that though.

Time for bed I think

Great SampSon, now that we know your "opinion" on the subject, remember that those that don't agree w/ you are entitled to their opinion after being involved in the "other" side, and felt it was  for them.

There are a lot of gay people who believe that only seperation or violence can end the gay\straight conflict. Just militant types. Back in my hey day, we'd get a bunch of guys from the gay bars to all go down to a straight club to dance, then when the straight guys started fights, we'd wail on them. Only did that twice though, started to fear the police.

Anyways, it's basically a pride thing. People, both gay and straight, need to see that there are other gay people out there. That's why when I go out I wear either a rainbow choker necklace or rainbow bracelet. It keeps women away, and makes me feel good about myself. Think of it as a constant personal gay pride parade.

But being pround of your sexuality? It is just who you are. It should be neither good, nor bad.

Ah well.
