So, I was working on a tax return for a gay couple (I'm an accountant). Now, assume that they were married and it was two men, would they say "This is my husband, Frank" and "this is my husband, Joe" or what are the spouses called?

Same thing for a lesbian couple are they both "wife"?

since they are not a traditional married couple i wouldn't think they would go by traditional titles like "wife" or "husband" but rather something like "partner".

Yes. Two husbands or two wives. Husbands being male, and wives being female. Or partner.
"This is Joe, my partner."

no such thing as gay "marriage"

Definition of Marriage: The legal union of a man and woman as husband and wife.

Shut it, threadcrapper.

I've heard partner most commonly.

Yes, either two wives and two husbands, or partner. I've only heard partner, though, because all the long term gay couples I know haven't done an actual marriage service.

Yes, you do excel at being a total douchebag. Good luck with that.

I don't think you can file jointly unless you are legally married either so the point is moot. They should be filing their returns as single.

Not sure how you americans do it, but in Canada you can file jointly if you're common law anyway.

"Are they both called 'wife' or 'husband'?"

Usually they are called 'gay'. ;)

Seriously, 'partner' works.
