Under the FDA's rules, men cannot give blood if they have had sex with another man at least once since 1977.

I remember from the last time I donated blood they asked something along the lines if I was married or in a relationship and sleeping with others. Of course, that may have just been a plant question from my wife.
I dunno, I've been unable to donate since I was 20. Tattoo, trip to middle east, tattoo, anthrax vaccination, trip to middle east, and now tattoo again 🙁 Might as well start having gay sex.

You can't give blood if you have a tattoo? Are you sure? Lots of people where I work have tattoos and give blood all the time when we do blood donations.
Wait 12 months after a tattoo if the tattoo was applied in a state that does not regulate tattoo facilities. This requirement is related to concerns about hepatitis. Learn more about hepatitis and blood donation.
Acceptable if the tattoo was applied by a state-regulated entity using sterile needles and ink that is not reused. There are 32 states that currently regulate tattoo facilities. You should discuss your particular situation with the health historian at the time of donation.

I gave blood yesterday for the first time and they must have asked me 3 different times if I had sex with another man within the past 12 months. While I was flattered, I thought it was a little overkill.
I don't understand why someone who has buttseks can't give blood.
Buttsex leads to AIDS. (Seriously, that is what they think.)

Is that all you can comeback with, Tinkerbell? I've seen that little response twice now in the same thread...Unfortunately there's a little thing called statistics that exist. Statistics show that although not all gay people carry HIV, a large percentage of HIV-carriers are gay. Many are intravenous drug users as well. They don't let IV drug users donate either...same statistical theory applied there that is applied with gays.
Don't get all butthurt that statistics and science prove that allowing gay men to donate blood has a significant possiblity of increasing risks of catching HIV to people who may need a blood transfusion.
Get over it...

It's not even debatable that anal sex is FAR more likely to involve blood, and transfer of STD's. Why would anyone even question this? And what kind of sex to gay men have? Oral or anal, there isn't any other option. Damn folks, show some common sense.
I call the ear!

Wow it's been awhile since we've had a visit from TheBigotMan, I'm honored!
Don't come crying when you or your family need a transfusion and the blood bank is out because they've eliminated a giant donation pool. My response was to a poster that claimed all gay people carry AIDS and taken out of context not only makes no sense, it makes you look like a fucking idiot who can't read.
Crawl back in your hole please.
Weight
You must weigh at least 110 Lbs to be eligible for blood donation for your own safety. Blood volume is in proportion to body weight. Donors who weight less than 110Lbs may not tolerate the removal of the required volume of blood as well as those who weigh more than 110Lbs. There is no upper weight limit as long as your weight is not higher than the weight limit of the donor bed/lounge you are using. You can discuss any upper weight limitations of beds and lounges with your local health historian.

What amdhunter said is true; the stigma against gay men giving blood is based entirely around the spread of HIV within the gay community since anal sex is the most likely to transmit the virus. It's a stupid policy, since straight people can get HIV too, but that's not going to stop the Red Cross from continuing their ridiculous policy (blood has to be screened for HIV regardless, and in a time where they are always saying they need more blood, you'd think they'd take anyone who was willing to donate).
-EDIT- Didn't realize it was FDA policy. That makes it even stupider...
