Gay characters in video games?

ME3 the whosmacallit(personal assistant?) of Shepard is Lesbian. Totally sucked as I had ignored all others and waited late in the game before making a move, then she shoots me down and all my other bridges are burnt! :colbert:

Mario was.

Why else do you think he likes chasing after giant monkeys and somehow finds castles with no princesses in it?

What's more important is how many games present them as normal people and not demeaning stereotypical butts of jokes, which there are examples of I'm pretty sure. Not every game needs to have some percentage of respectable gay characters though it is nice.

I'd be more concerned about the lack of trans characters and their total debasement when present. The way their represented in media/games is literally life and death for some suffering people, and unlike LGB there isn't much to counterbalance that currently.

In Mass Effect my Shepard was a lesbian. And she didn't discriminate against other alien races either. If the character remotely looked female, my Shepard was trying to get some.

She wasn't a lesbian, she was quite literally a man trapped in a womans body. Perv.

You are walking a fine line sir.

By the same reasoning anyone who is religious could say games that don't have religion in them seems like they are being excluded and are offended.

I think we all could be a little more tolerant.

Wonder how long till we have an equal rights represented in games group out there.
I get what your saying, and now after reading a lot of the posts I realize that there are actually quite a few gay characters! The only way I meant that it would be intentional was that if in some case a situation called for a gay character but there were some how omitted. I poorly worded my sentence so I think that's more at fault than the idea itself. Thanks for all the replies everybody! Interesting stuff

Out of curiosity, what games have done this?

How would you know the character is gay unless they specifically told you, or involved him in gay scenes (which a lot of gamers probably wouldn't like). I mean, for all we know Gordon Freeman could be gay.

Fallout 3 had a few, New Vegas has several, but it was never a plot point. Not even with Veronica and Christine. You could choose not to discuss it at all and it doesnt affect the quests either way.

A few NPCs in Borderlands 2 are. Hammerlock, for sure, and his "ex" boyfriend Taggert.

This doesn't really count, I suppose but the entire Sylvari race in Guild Wars 2 mates with the same gender--but I think the reality is they are gender neutral/genderless plant people...just that the models and voices are male and female specific.

Which it SHOULD have been. I know where Veronica is, and I know where Christine is, but I'm completely unable to mention that to either!

Same with that little group of ghouls in Fallout 3 who could not get to the ghoul "city" because of the super mutants. I'd already cleaned out the super mutants, yet I had no way to tell them that, so they were forced to live beside a ruined building until one by one they were killed off by cross-fire.

yeah both games should have had a lot more interactiveness. There was a similar problem with lost refugees in New Vegas.

in BG2, Anomen tried to get it on with my male character, and left in anger when i rejected him.
i then reloaded an earlier save and everything went on regularly.

Theres some broken quests like that with the core BG2. THe fix pack takes care of those issues.
And mods allow any number and type of romances. I use the gibberlings Tweak Pack for that stuff.
