I'm surprised that more people don't take advantage of certain warranties....I've cashed out on several already...since with some warranties don't require you to return the product....so I just call up, say MYGOT!!! its broken!!!!....and they send me a store credit. I usually just ebay the new product. (usual holding periods are about 1 year). Old product (hehe) works just fine.
Everyone is happy....store sells a warranty, I get a new product (ebay), I still use old product....only loser is the warranty company. I can register with multiple addresses, names, etc....so they never catch on.

do most the extended warranties cover anything--like even if you use your new pda for a frisbee? i think it would be funny to buy the extended warranty and just after you check out of best buy throw your new pda against the wall, and say, "I'd like a new one, please--i bought the warranty."
i would like to see someone do that, but its not something i would do. i'm too much of a tight arse to buy the extended warranty in the first place.
I just bought an X-box and was offered a warrentee. I asked the guy about it, and apparently I could throw the thing down a flight of stairs and they would fix/replace it.

next time, just say: "I like to live dangerously. Knowing my electronics could fail at any given moment gives me a rush." then proceed to look at the salesperson suggestively. (touch nipple area if necessary)

That's B.S. They would make you send it in to a repair center which would take 4-6 weeks. As soon as they determined that it was abused they would deny the claim. Those salesmen will tell you ANYTHING and flat out lie to you to get you to purchase the extended warranty.

While I'm not defending the flight of stairs line, Electronics Boutique warranties are in-store on the spot replacements. No 4-6 week wait, and you get an equal unit to the one your purchased. New=new.

Anything with a moving part or that requires electricity
Does CompUSA sell the iBrator: 😛

Good grief, I went to OfficeMax today to pickup a $9.99 (AR) USB floppy drive and the manager was trying to push a $7 extended warranty on me even though it has a 2 year warranty from the factory...and what are the chances of the drive dying; I don't even plan on using it all that often. Just while installing RAID drivers during WinXP setup. Yet he kept pushing and pushing until I had to firmly say NO to his lard ass...
THEN, I go to CompUSA to pickup a Sony Clie PDA (not for me) and used the 10% off coupon. When the stockboy got me the PDA from the "cage" he was harping on the extended warranty for the PDA. I told him that I was not interested and that I typically don't keep my PDAs for very long. He persisted and I said NO! He shuttles me off to the cashier who asks me "Would you like to purchase an extended warranty?" I tell her no thanks. She says "Are you sure?" to which I reply "Yes!" So she calls for BACKUP!! WTF??!!:| She calls the manager over and she asks me:
"Why don't you want the extended warranty"
"I just don't want it"
"Why, what's your reasoning?"
**By this time, I'm pissed off to no end and there's a line forming behind me so I decide to get loud**
"BECAUSE IT MEANS PURE PROFIT FOR YOU GUYS IF NOTHING AT ALL GOES WRONG WHICH IS MOST LIKELY THE CASE WITH THIS PDA"
"Well, true...but what if something DOES go wrong?"
"I have the manufacturer's warranty and I'll stick with that. I DON'T WANT IT!!"
About this time, she gets the hint that I'm not going to purchase the extended warranty and leaves...
GRRRRRRRRRRR!!! LEAVE ME ALONE!!!:|:|

That's why they hardly even ask once about it to me.

Ohh, so you're some Vin Diesel lookin' mofo![]()
Didn't you read where I wrote I hated selling the things and merely presented it to the customer? I can read people pretty well and know if someone's liable to take it or not - but the job requires you to ask once.Originally posted by: waggy

Then expect slow, terrible service as I call ahead to the cashier to verify your identity to the letter while you try to make your purchase, slowing you down as much as possible. UV check of bills? Check signature of CC? See driver's licence? Match to face?Originally posted by: MangoTBG
We'd rather take it out on you. That's what you're getting paid for.
Make my life unnecessarily hard and I'll gladly reciprocate. 🙂
shit you would be an A$$hole just to try and sale something that the customer has already said NO to? WTF.
I've sold a $350 extended warranty on a $1000 laptop. Didn't do anything special - it was cursory and the furthest thing from my mind was her saying yes...in fact I had to control myself not to show my shock. Pretty amusing job some days.Originally posted by: MAME
a brand new emachine laptop is worth more than $200?? 😛
