I thought it was a stereotype of indians. IST? Indian Standard Time which is +2hr from everything.

Lately I've decided to be late on purpose... casually late.

Why? That's just stupid. I always arrive a few minutes early to make sure I'm on time. That way, I'm not holding up anyone else who may want to get to having fun in case the host wishes to wait for everyone. That and it's just polite to be on time.

i'm chinese too and haven't heard of this "asian time". maybe it's more of a south asian thing. asia has very diverse cultures & ppl, and people just lump them into one big category "asian" and it gets confusing.

its a ripoff, every race has one, well, all the races that try and be funny. theres no ni**er time, when white people are late its just their ass being late. i first heard it as "indian time" because indians(native americans) take there time doing things, it seems they've always had this "no rush" policy. "asian time" is just a ripoff of that, iv mainly heard it as 'philipino time' because well, i'v hung out with a lot of philipinos. i think indian time makes the most sense because it co-insides with the whole indian philosophy of doing things at your own pace.

but ya, its just a cute way of trying to say somebodys late, perticularly a race, even tho asians are usually very strict about whatever they do.

(blah blah blah)

My ceremony tomorrow is set at 2pm. We posted 1pm to account for those fuggin "asian-time" people. :|

i could be wrong, but IIRC the term 'asian time' originates from extremely adverse trafic conditions in asian nations like korea and taiwan. it is such a commonplace more often that not they have a mutual understanding when you are late to a meeting due to traffic, well sometimes. of course you are expected to be punctual for most part, all i am saying is traffic is a much better excuse in those countries than it is in the states for being late.

in some countries (including some asian countries), ya know, showing up on time at parties that involved eating is considered greedy. so it nearly becomes a custom to show up late (sometimes even 4 hours late). people are trying to get rid of that fvcking custom though

when they all started jumpin the boarder!!

sorry, I couldn't help it.

I saw a t-shirt once that said "Let's move to Mexico. It should be empty by now."

What the hell is this asian time thing? Being late? That's just irresponsible and disrespectful.

It's not just Asian. Lots of round eyes have the same problem.

Lots of mexicans seem to have the same problem, too. There's a mexican catholic church a few blocks from my house. They ring that damn bell at 10 am every sunday and I see gobs of mexican families walking down the street all dressed up ready for church -only they're a good 20 minutes late.

Where do you live?
