Honestly, is it the excitement, cause i would be no where near water with gators around

Depends on the size of the gator, the smaller one's will avoid human contact, if you've been unlucky enough to fall in near an 11 foot'er you could be in danger and as already mentioned by Pizza idiots sometimes feed gators so guess what? they learn to associate humans with food, this is a bad thing as it could make even smaller gators come over looking for a snack. To those who suggest fighting back, these are powerful animals and can cause damage not only with the jaws but the tail as well, yes, a gator would not be able to open it's mouth if you hold it shut provided you don't get bitten BEFORE the chance to hold it shut occurs..
