I just spent a few days with my brother and his wife's XP box has Gator all over it. I know because I saw the icon in the tray and Adaware 6 found around 75 Gator items. She says she's quite attached to Gator's offering to automatically fill in forms in webpages - things like her name, address, CC number, exp. date, etc. My assertions that Gator is also spying on her and supplying third parties with what she might consider proprietary information were not enough to convince her to stop using Gator. Is there an alternative to Gator that will provide the service that it provides without the downside? I'd appreciate an explanation of why Gator is awful, too. I long ago decided to purge it from my computers but don't have a clear idea of why it's a menace. Thanks for any help.

Google toolbar has the autofill... not too sure if it does creditcard information, but hell, i wouldn't want that information to be autofilled anyways.

Autoform.
Thanx, but Autoform seems to be something for a developer when making pages with forms. Is this still what I would use to fill out my info on websites I visit?

It's pupose is for developers who constantly have to fill out forms on webpages. It should work fine.

Firebird. Google Toolbar. Anything but Gator. It's a pure and simple hook to keep people using thier spyware crap. (IMO...)

Thanx....I'll give the AutoForm a try, but if I don't like it or cant get it to work, can I use the Google Toolbar on FireBird (the Google site says it requires IE 5.5 or greater.

There's a port for it on the same site above, but I'm not sure if it will carry that feature. Also, regular Mozilla has that feature in Tools->Form Manager.

Edit: It looks like Roboform will soon be coming to a Firebird near you.

Among these, which satisfactory solution would be easiest for my non-technically oriented sister-in-law to migrate too? Should I have her strip out all the Gator stuff first with Adaware or can I have her set it up in Google Toolbar or Roboform, or whatever first to show her that it's working? Thanks!

I think Roboform will import her Gator information automatically, then remove Gator with Adaware or Spybot..

I would just remove Gator and install Google toolbar. You only need to enter the information in once, so it's not like it's that big of a hassle.
