Is the integrated scaler in this screen really that much better than letting the graphics card do the scaling? With my HP LP3065 and a HD 2900XT upscaled graphics look great, with AA enabled.

Why should GFX-cards upscale so poorly?

That integrated scaler sounds nice, especially since I'm not convinced either ATi or nVidia always scale while preserving the aspect ratio.

FYI, I purchased the Sceptre 46" 1080p LCD from costco for about $1400 (after shipping). I waited for it because it was one if the first models to support native PC resolutions.

I bought it to be a tv in my bedroom, but put it in the office for fun. I quickly set it up to 1920x1080p from my old X800 gfx card and it works WONDERFULLY. At first I had some ghosting because I was using a cheap 15ft vga cable.. I bought a high end VGA cable from newegg and now the image is perfect.

I am so utterly spoiled by having 46" nothing could change me back. Strangely enough, I'm actually considering getting a second one as my second monitor (right now I have a 21" CRT next to it. I play LOTR Battle for Middle Earth ROTWK on it and do all my daily pc activities.

Picture of my monitor. from left to right 46" - 20" CRT - 21" TV

Thanx for the info :)

This belongs in another thread though.

Also, the main reason people like the idea of 30" LCDs isn't size; it's resolution.
2560x1600 is nearly double the real estate in pixels your 1080p gives you.
So if you want size, certainly a TV like a Sharp Aquos or your Sceptre make sense.
If you want resolution, 1080p isn't that spectacular compared to 30" LCDs.

On topic, anyone bought this Gateway yet :)?
Or are we all waiting for someone else to make the plunge :p?

No BB in my area has it yet. I'll keep an eye out for it. Not ready to drop $1700 on it sight unseen, though I guess I could always return it if it sucked...

When you're getting it? Please let us know. I was kinda frustrated w/ the latest gaming experience (i.e. Crysis) on my HP 3065 and was looking into one of the 40" offerings (TVs) from Samsung. This upscaling thing will, if works as advertised, change the whole thing and then I can have a nice dual 30" setup. :D

I just ordered it about 2 mins ago. Should be here by Friday and the new rig will be here before that, so, by Sat. night or Sunday, she'll be up and running and I promise pics and a full review :)

Excellent.

Yeah lopri, i hate the idea of SLI/CF, but Crysis demo rapes my system haha...

IIRC i had to run medium w/ no AA to get 1600x1200 to be playable, & anything lower [resolution] is just ridiculously tiny on the 30"ers :p

Yeah so I'm kinda miffed at Gateway right now...still.

I ordered my XHD3000 Sunday early afternoon and expressly told them that, regardless of shipping price, I 'need' my monitor here by Friday, the 9th. I was told it would be and that I'd get an email when it shipped.

Well, today (Tuesday) still no email, so I called. Long story short, 3 ppl later, I spoke to a supervisor in CS who told me they are on backorder (?!?) and that I'll get it by the 16th. WTF? So I told him that had I know this and had I not been told I would have it by the 9th, I would have just bought it at the devil's store (ie. Best Buy). He told me I could cancel it, but I'm looking at up to 2 weeks til the money got refunded etc. etc.

So he refunded $86 and upgraded me to overnight shipping ($75) for free. My question was wtf wasn't the overnight already included? He said I'd paid only for the standard shipping. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

So I'm looking at sometime next week before I get my baby. Not happy...........

Just thought I'd mention for y'all that are awaiting a first hand review.

Hey SirFelix, have you received your display yet?

I ordered mine from HSN.com and got a two year extended warrenty with it.

Dell just came out with their own screen and it beats the Gateway in terms of the stand and inputs. Doesn't look like the scaler will beat Gateway though.

I was told these displays are built to order so I will get mine the 22nd... ordered last Saturday (6 days ago)

get a sanyo PLV z5 instead...
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/...Theater_Projector.html

Or buy it on a ebay store (new) for just under 1000$... Getting the same cost and so much more... set it up as a home thetre with a wireless keyboard and mouse.. I did that with a sanyo plv z2 and it was a blast. Never enjoyed an RPG or RTS as I did back then playing it on a 150inch screen (well, picture on a wall actually) with true surround sound (i ran wires myself... 8 hours of work, <50$ cost, plugged one old stereo system to the front chanell pc output, and another to the rear chanell output... and hung the speakers on the wall with the wires hidden)

The latest model is the z2000 (previously thought to be named x6) that is natively 1080p. and 15000:1 brightness... but it is MSRP 3000, (probably can find for 2500),... it is best to be one gen behind on these...

I ended up canceling my order from Gateway last week since I kept getting a run around regarding these being on backorder and overall just getting BS'ed. So last Friday, I bit the bullet and went into BestBuy and ordered one. It got here today. In fact, I went to my UPS distribution center here in town and picked it up myself (since I work nights and wouldn't be there when they delivered it and I'm not keen on leaving an $1900 purchase on the porch).

It is currently sitting my the backseat of the Caddy and when i get off of work in 2 hours, I'll be rushing home to set'er up. The guys at HardForum are also asking for a review on this, so I'll be x-posting both my informal review and pics later tonight and thru the wknd!

If you have any ???'s, I'll try to answer them. I don't have Crysis yet (xmas) and the newest game I have is Total War: Medieval II for the PC, but I do have HALO 3 and Bioshock for the 360...lemme know what you guys wanna know about her and I'll see if I can oblige!

Nice, I can't wait to get mine next week! I already have my new desk setup for it and all the equipment ready to hook up :)

The only question I would have is how many ways you can display the picture.

1. Full (strecthes but doesn't lose ratio)
2. Zoom (Fill the whole screen but lose part of the picture)
3. 1:1 (more than likely will have black bars all around and will display pixel for pixel)
4. Justified (streches edges more than center which helps 4:3 pictures look more natural on a widescreen)

Well, I will have the long review up next weekend. Sorry but things got in the way this weekend.

That said, I have to say that thus far, I'm blown away by it. Only have it set up and the colors set up, but seriously, WOW!

Like I said, I'll do up a full review this weekend, but in the meantime here are two shots of my setup w/ it:

Spectacular! :D

I knew your setup was going to be gorgeous based on your LCD plans threads; now we can see it :)

There's really only one thing i care about.
How well does it really scale things for PC?

As in, can you tell 1920x1200 has been scaled to 2560x1600, etc?

Its the only monitor I've seen that has a remote.
Anyone know of any other monitor(24 and up) that has a remote ??

The 37" Westy that I got for my gf has one, although you're going to get an argument about whether it's a monitor or not. It's 1920x1080p, so take it for what it's worth. But, she and I both really like it. Obviously my Gateway is a better "monitor", but man, that Westy is nice!

And thanks, n7. You were a huge help in all the monitor choices I had and I greatly appreciate it.

I know what you're asking and if you and the rest of the fellas are willing to wait til after Thanksgiving (over the weekend), I'll be writing up a lengthy review on it. Mind you, I'm just a layman, so it's just an average joe's take, but it'll be there for you guys.

And yeah, I'm pretty doggone stoked about the setup. Well worth it, imo.

I wouldn't mind getting one of these. I wish it had a coax in like the new 3008WFP, but the plethora of connections is awesome. The built in scaling draws me in too, much overdue feature. I wonder how the audio will change with the video inputs or if you toggle them all separately?

Although the downsides I have about getting one is maybe 30 inch is too big? It has a 1 year warranty. Which is absolutely terrible for such an expensive product. I guess the main attraction to this (over say a 40+ inch 1080p TV for the same price) would be the resolution. I guess it comes down to compromising all of the features and resolution for 10+ inches.

EDIT: A defect in the screen? http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1234459 Includes video of the problem. Apparently it is fixed with all new monitors shipping after Oct 29th? Good news then.

Personally once these drop to $1000ish it would be a good deal.

Well, I have the Westy 37" too.
I was looking for a smaller monitor with a remote.
All the 24" do not come with a remote.
This Gateway 30" is the first that I've seen comes with a remote

I finally received my LCD after waiting for over two weeks. Needless to say, I was counting the days

There's a huge defect with mine though. When I plug in 480i content, the scaler makes it extremely pixelated. There's also noticable lag when playing the PS2, but that seems to be common.

I was going to exchange it, but now I'm thinking of returning it because of the lag. It's a bit more than what I want when playing video games....

Maybe later I'll pick this up again once the lag issue is fixed or get the dell if they do better.

I will wait till dell's new monitor comes out. Then we should see a mini price war which should lead them to $800 - $1000 below price range then i will make a move to 30" monitor.
