Gateway Stock?

What does everyone think of Gateway stock? Seems they are getting a lot of very big contracts lately.

While they dont do the volume of dell ever since they got rid of those stupid gateway stores I see them in places I have not in years.

No thoughts? I personally think gateway might be making a bit of a comeback. I would think on a consumer level they should pass HP?

I never understood the whole "cow" thing, really. Seen a lot of their commercials on TV, but I think Dell and HP beat Gateway more visibly in looks and value.

Especially Dell. NOBODY can discount as deep as they can right now; just do a search on any Hot Deals forum and Dell crushes HP and Gateway in the frequency and amount of discounts.

Quality wise, they're all the same. They all outsource manufacturing to a handful of OEMs in SE Asia.

Because Ted Waitt started the business on his family's dairy farm in Sioux City,SD. They didn't orignally build computers,him and a buddy just sold parts,his brother later joined the company.

When Texas Instruments decided to jack the price of their computers up Ted knew he could build a better and cheaper box. They were a force to be delt with a decade ago,they moved to San Diego,Tedd let others run the company and it about went in the dumpster.

That may all change. On top of AMDs anti-trust lawsuits there are many others in the courts now and coming down the pipes. Dell may end up losing their 'sugar daddy' deal in the end. Intel really does not have much to stand on.

Not to mention, Dell may already have been kicked aside. Intel may be worried that Dell has actually outgrown their most favored underling status - Dell actually has a more well known brand now. Intel is not used to being one upped by their 'helpers'. The Apple deal was seen by many as a shot at Dell and a stern notice to them.


In short, soon it looks like Dell may lose their sweetheart deal with Intel. You know, the only thing that really makes them competitve at all.

Buy Dell or Microsoft. Safe and strong stocks.

Buy Vanguard VFINX or another S&P 500 index fund. Much safer than gambling on any one stock.
