Gateway P7811-FX consistently hangs and locks up

Does anyone know of this issue and the solution? It really seems to only happen when the AC adapter is plugged in.

I really thought that perhaps the GPU is receiving too much voltage when plugged in, but it doesn't just happen while light gaming, but also occasionally during browsing the net.

I'm really stumped, please let me know if you need more information.

I'm seeing alot of people having this trouble when anything USB is connected and it's on AC power and gaming. Running on battery power this problem doesn't happen, and running no USB devices fixes the problem. Are you using any USB devices? If so unplug them all and see what happens on both AC and DC.

Yes I am using a Logitech G7. If this is the case (I'm testing) this is incomprehensible as a gaming laptop that has to use the track pad is no gaming laptop at all.

gateway isnt really known for great quality. i'd guess even less so after acer bought them(which now owns emachines and packard bell also). i'm sure there were some shortcuts taken to get it so cheap 😛

Make sure your vents are not clocked with dust bunnies. I am having a hell of a time with mine encoding. The damned thing is getting to hot while encoding videos, look like I am going to have to invest in a cooler.

I will tear it down today and see, although the case and the air exhausting never feel even warm. It usually isn't on long enough to get hot. I use a Logitech Alto stand for mine, not active cooling but it works well, is silent, and looks dang good.

My P-6831FX is going strong after a year. The hard drive was dying, but Gateway replaced it no questions asked. I'm surprised the newer models have problems. You should have a year warranty on it. Maybe try calling Gateway for a replacement or fix?
