Wandered into BB tonight and they had this puppy on clearance sale for $944:

P-6860FX

Seems like a pretty decent deal. I've been mulling over the idea of getting a gaming laptop and I was aiming for the $1000 price point.

Is this worth getting excited over? I wasn't really ready to pull the trigger on a new laptop, but if this is a hot deal I might just do it.

The deal is still on. For some reason it is not being advertised on their website. I just called the local store again and confirmed it.

They have it in stock and it's on clearance at $944.99.

Best Buy clearance pricing isn't chain-wide, but are set independantly per store.

If my local Best Buy had it at that price, I'd probably get one. 😀

You are possibly still in luck - I'm sure Bailey's Crossroads isn't the only store with this deal. I saw a post on another forum yesterday where someone saw the P-6860FX on clearance sale at a store in Philadelphia.

If you can't find one locally, you could just drive here. Depending on where you are in PA, Bailey's Crossroads is just outside of Washington DC, southern PA is only about 1 1/2 hours drive away. They had something like 14 laptops left last night.

 
Man, I was dismayed when Zap mentioned Best Buy's clearances aren't nation wide. I don't know why I even took the time to read where your local Best Buy was. Somehow, of all the places on Earth you could be, your Best Buy happened to be 4 miles away from my evening class. What the hell are the odds of that?!

I am typing this up on my brand new Gateway, and I'm loving it! (not to rub it in to the rest of ya) Thanks for posting this Smoothvirus. BTW, traffic out there sucks!
 
Hehe, chances of me getting a $1000 laptop are approximately zero to lower than the chance that all the oxygen in the room will suddenly avoid my head for about 5 minutes.

I guess this is better than the reburb deal at TD for this same lappy since this has a better warranty and you know what you are getting.
 
An update: I walked into BB tonight to buy Spore and checked out the laptop display, they still had 12 P-6860FX's. Then I looked at the price and they had dropped it down to $809.99! Fortunately I happened to have my original receipt in my wallet. So if you bought one of these after I posted the deal go back and get your $140 refund.

I'm very happy, this is a great laptop and $810 is a steal!
 
I would get this laptop except the native res of the LCD is too low for my liking (1440x900) and the CPU is on the slower end (1.86GHz) 🙁 If they could have at least made the LCD res 1680x1050...

Falls Church, VA

It's their Bailey's Crossroads store which is just south of Washington DC in Northern Virginia. Bit of a hike from N.C., the laptops have been spotted on clearance sales in other stores (Philadelphia area) so I would check locally before driving all the way up here. You might also want to check stores in Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Woodbridge because all of those are between where I am and N.C. on I-95.
