Gateway/necx canceling recent Visiontek 4400/4600 orders without notification, check your orders

Sorry to say, but the Shipment Pending status will appear in the Status for a while after they reinstated your order, then will change to the dreaded "Backordered". I got excited too, but no such luck. >>



RaptorNV has the right call. On Saturday, the order switched to "backordered".. who knows for how long..

Heh I got in on the radeon deal, but then again I was one of the first to order .

I just got this reply from Gateway today (I ordered at 8pm EST on the 21st):

Dear Mr. Sun,

Thank you for your reply.

We have reinstated your order as requested. Your new order number is
**********. To obtain updated order status information, please visit the Order Center online at http://www.Gateway.com/accessories/

Once logged in, click on your Order Number. You will see your Order
Statement and order status information. You can print your Order

We currently have about 30 backorders for this card. Your order is
within that group.

I still havent received confirmation that they reinstated my order. my order shows as canceled. maybe they will have it fixed by tomorrow.


not a big deal because it seems noone has the 4400 yet. im sure there will be plenty before april.

Well, they probably won't even start manufacturing the 4400 until the demand on the 4600 eases up a little bit... the 4600 is almost certainly more profitable for both Nvidia and for the card builders...

Hopefully we start to see a supply of 4400's starting late next week.... but that doesn't mean that Gateway will be one of the vendors to get cards (best buy and other monsters will probably get 90% of the initial allocation).

It's been a couple business days since I replied to the email to reinstate my order ... still no new order # in my account. I think I'll call tomorrow just to make sure I have a new order.

Update: Called up today -- took 17 minutes and got the order reinstated. Seems like they aren't processing the email reply to reinstate, you have to call.

Oh, and still no ETA on when they're arriving.

Just bumping this so that if anyone gets any news in the next few days they can attach it to this thread... from what I can see, noone has the Visiontek 4400 yet but the supply of the 4600 appears to be exhausted.

FYI- A quick glance at Pricewatch shoes the ETA for the VisionTek 4400s to be between 3/14 and 3/23. For what it's worth we may be seing some in the next week or so.

I called to reinstate my order; be prepared for a long wait on "hold". But, once connected, the customer rep was courteous, already aware of the situation, and was pleased to promptly reinstate the order. The experience was outright nice because of the great attitude taken by the customer rep in handling the issue.
She did not venture to guess on a possible shipping date. But, I've lived this long without this card; I can wait. This may turn out well, in spite of the various twists and turns during the past few weeks. Well done, Gateway.

I concur, they were very courteous and polite when they took my new order also... as far as waiting goes, I have a GF3, so I'm not hurting or anything... my brother will be sending me his old junker at the end of the month... if I don't have it by the time I get that machine I'll go buy one off the shelf with my Amex Blue and pricematch it to the lowest price I can get 90 days later!

The Ti4400 was not in stock at Gateway when I called them on March 13th;
It was "expected toward the end of the month possibly" according to the Gateway CSR that I spoke with...no guess as to when we buyers might receive it.

Well, it's not worth getting excited about... as I feared noone has the TI-4400 in stock... and the TI-4600 is in extremely short supply with all retailers too.

The same thing happened for the first 2 months after the GF3 came out.

It will probably be beginning of april before stock levels really start to stabilize.

I found this in the nvnews.net forum, thanks and credit goes to GoldenTiger(posted 3/14/2002):

They sent them out ages ago. All you do is call, say your order #, ask them to reinstate it and they will do it. No fights or anything. They finally got an ETA today, too. They said their distributor just started to get small shipments in, so they should be shipping out from Gateway sometime late next week to early the week after. Your card should come around the 22nd-26th.

I got that info by calling and talking to the distribution department's manager. He instantly knew what it was by name and told me the status .

Thank you for the info. Whether it does come in during the 22nd-26th or not, at least there is some hope that we will see the card sooner rather than later. If the date slips for whatever reason, it slips. Personally, I don't expect shipping until April 1st. My reasons are first psychological. If I expect it a bit late, and it arrives early, then I am pleasantly surprised. Second reason is that unlike all the other sharp-eyed shoppers here on AT, I did not order mine on the first day. Hence, I will wait a bit longer than everyone else. Thirdly, the supply is just not there to fill large volumes. Fourth, if waiting a day or two puts the econominc "losses" associated with these orders into a different quarter's financial report, all the better. Fifth, who cares; it is such a great deal and great card (at least until the next new one is released). Smile, enjoy.

Sounds like I pressed a button....Hmm? It seems like you want to make an impression to people here that you know everything and whatever you say is a fact. I remember reading a psychology journal which explains that people who tend to be rude, self-seeking, cynical, etc. are those who have extremely low self-esteem. That would explain why your buttons can easily be pressed.
