If you have not already done so, you may want to browse this thread for reviews and comments on the Gateway M505. You may also be interested in knowing that Office Depot will be offering the Gateway M505X for $1399.99 from 1/4/2004 to 1/10/2004. That's a good deal for a well made Centrino laptop with ATI 9600 graphics.

Is that officedepot.com or the actual store? If I can walk in and buy one I just might jump on that.

Thanks,

I saw the information in the Office Depot ad that came in an early edition of the Sunday paper. The ad says "Gateway notebooks in-stock now at Office Depot". I would guess that both the stores and the website have them. You could check the Office Depot ad in your local Sunday paper to see if the stores in your area carry them, or just call your local store.

Gateway is coming out with some impressive notebooks. I own a 450XL and it's a solid notebook. My friend just got a Dell 8600 and that thing feels like it's going to fall apart when I pick it up. It creaks and flexes so much and the keyboard is terrible. I saw the M505 in the store and it's a lot better than the first generation widescreen they had. It's a great buy.

Well, I just got back from OD and The Gateway Store. I was real close to picking up a M505X when I noticed something about the notebook that I didn't like. Now I know this is being really picky. Anyway, I noticed that on the outer edge of the screen on both sides there are four silver screws. These things look really odd and I can't figure out why Gateway would design the M505X with visible screws on the outside of the notebook. No other notebook that I've looked at has these screws.

I then went to CC to look at the HP zt3000 again. IMO the zt3000 has a lot better finish and overall design (and no visible screws).

Anyway, I'm going to give HP another month to pull their heads out and offer the mobility 9600 in the x1000 or zt3000 line.

Man I just came back from OfficeDepot. And I have to tell you I love centrino technology that is why I got the Dell 600m, but now shoot this thing just tops it all. I am definetly going to have to sell my 600m and buy one of theses. It just so slick and clean!

BargainSeeker am I right to assume you have the m505? Anyway how is the heat off of that Radoen 9600? I know with my Dell 600m that I can rarely feel any noticable heat off of anything other than the hard drive.

Yes, I have a M505X. It runs very cool and quiet. While browsing the internet, for example, I can sit on the couch with the M505X in my lap and the bottom barely gets warm and the fans do not run at all. This is quite different from other laptops with the ATI 9600 such as the Dell Inspiron 8600. The hard disk in the M505X is also nearly inaudible. When playing computer games, the fans do come on but they are very quiet and the bottom of the M505X still does not get hot.
