Gateway M505 Pentium M / ATi 9600 notebook

I think this must be the Gigabyte G-MAX N601.

I think I prefer the look of the LG IBM Xnote LM50, which is not widescreen btw. LG IBM I hope this one might also make it to the US.

Looks like the M505 has both a 4-pin and 6-pin firewire port, thats a nice feature for video work.
 
I think you are absolutely right. The Gateway M505 is the Gigabyte N601. You can really tell by that Russian photo you found.

I agree with you also on the LG-IBM LM50. I have not found another laptop that offers a wide viewing angle, 6 1/2 hours of battery life on the standard battery (10 hrs on the big battery), Pentium M and ATi 9600 graphics.
 
Only available in M 1.4 and 1.5 flavors. Not that these are slow.. but I would have expected faster from a new release.

Information here on the Gigabye N601 shows that it can support Pentium M CPUs with clock speeds of 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7 GHz and a Dothan CPU with clock speed of 1.8GHz.

Soon, I expect that Gateway will offer a user configurable version of the M505 (M505CS?) like they now offer with the M675.
 
It seems to me that the Gateway M505X is the current "best buy" among moderately priced laptop computers.

Look at what you get for $1599:

- 3 levels of tech support: local store, Gateway national, and Gigabyte

The Gateway M505X seems like a very liveable system for a mobile gamer on a budget.

 
It seems like a very cool system. I saw an M500 today at a Gateway store and it was pretty cool. So the M505 should be about the same. I may decide to get it, too.
 
I have posted my preview of the Gateway M505XL in the "Notebook Reviews and Benchmarks" section of the Talk Notebooks website. It appears that Gateway does NOT buy the M505 from Gigabyte. Instead, both Gateway and Gigabyte buy this laptop from Wistron.

OT: I thought it was funny that the forum software did not let me enter the name of a large Japanese manufacturer called Mat****a (Panasonic) without inserting ****.
