Gateway gt5426e

Hello, I just want to start off by saying this is one of my last resorts because I can generally fix things myself.

I just got a new computer today from my college. Its a Gateway GT5426E. The story is that someone had brought it in to our "help desk" to get fixed. One of the instructors took it over. He went over everything and figured it needed a new motherboard. He got a new one and still the same problem. He then ordered a new CPU, and still, the same problem.

I have seen it sitting around for a few weeks and asked if I could buy it from him because the original owner bought a new computer. He let me take it for $20.

I got home and began trying to fix the issue. When you start it up, it beeps forever and doesn't show anything on the screen. I have tried moving the RAM in different slots, and even new RAM all together. The next thing I did was robbed my eMachines PSU, which happens to be the exact same model as the gateways. That didn't help. I took my eMachine's video card to try and see if it did anything. This time it made 2 beeps, then shut off. Weird... I tried to reset the BIOs but still nothing.

This is just so weird. It has a new MB, CPU, RAM, PSU and wont load to BIOs, or even show anything on the screen for that matter.

Can anyone lead me into the right direction please?

Take the motherboard out of the case and put it on something non-conductive like a cardboard box, disconnect EVERYTHING except the PSU, one stick of RAM, and a video card. Try booting the system that way. If it works, then add in one component at a time until the system fails to boot in order to determine which item is causing the problem. If it will boot outside of the case with everything connected, then you probably have something creating a short between the case and the motherboard such as an improperly placed standoff screw.

Yeah, I have had that happen to my brother-in-law. But this is not the case. I had tried that with both motherboards but nothing. I have come to the conclusion that both motherboards are bad. I am going to try and RMA the new motherboard the teacher bought. It's from newegg, anyone know how their RMA system is?
