Gateway FX6800-09...seems too good to be true

For $1,650, this looks like about as good of a machine as I can build by myself. I'm extremely impressed and tempted. I'd like to know the exact maker of the video card and the RAM, though.

Does anyone have any experience with this system. I've been looking to build my own for about the same amount of money, but this system seems to have everything I want and I can't argue with a nice full system warranty.

I would want to know who makes the motherboard more than the other two, heck most graphics cards come from the same place. You are paying for the name and the customer service that name represents, for the most part. It certainly has solid specs and is not a bad option for the money. But regardless that is a very good deal. I took a minute to piece together a similiar system and had a very hard time matching the price.

I've got one of their laptops (P-171S FX) and can't say enough about it. For the money I could literally buy two for what the next decent choice would have cost.

That said, my wife owned one of their desktops in the late 90s and it was a POS. Their quality comes and goes in waves apparently.

Gateway has definitely stepped up to become one of the leaders in price/performance ratio as far as gaming computers go (especially laptops). Quality isn't tank-like, but should be fine if you treat it well. Of course, for desktops, this is much less of an issue.
