Gateway FPD2185W for $527 @ Circuit City

I don't know how long this deal will last so YMMV. Here's what you have to do:

- Go to the CC website, search for 2185w.
- once you add to cart it will subtract 15% (was 80 bux).
- check to see if any CC B&M in your area has in stock
- if you locate one in the area select local pick up or whatever.
- submit for purchase like normal and write down the # that you get after purchase
- take that # and the card you used for purchase to your local store and pick up your new monitor.

my total came to $556 after tax, which is not bad considering I have a physical place to do an exchange with should something go wrong. 😀

EDIT: took out the shipping comments
EDIT2: edited to reflect price change from last week

Search for "FPD2185W" -- or have better kharma than I: CC has one of the poorer/pickiest search engines I've experienced, which has bugged me in the past.

Also, their clever site has now dropped "savings" to $72, raising price to $529. Maybe this is one more hint that they hate -me-?

I called Circuit City last week when they put this sale up to ask a few questions.

I changed my mind after talking to them because of the 15% restocking fee that applies in case you want to return it!

they must have changed it because its a new week. I did this right before they closed last night

Edited for price change

None of the ones around me ever have any in stock, otherwise I'd pm to best buy since they don't have a restocking fee to return monitors.

Why doesn't Gateway just drop their prices and sell more of these widescreens directly to us consumers. If CC was orignially selling these for around $600, Gateway should be able to sell them (direct) for under $450 and compete nicely with the 2005FP.
With the estimated oversupply of flat panels, I was hoping on some nice deals late last year early this year. Seems like the no MIR 19" for $200 or the 20" for $350 will only happen when del does their thing again.

To provide some perspective I paid $553 with tax at my employer, a major consumer electronics chain, and that price is 5% over cost. So, the wholesale cost is quite high.

Well $553 is with tax so w/o it the price would be aroudn $515-$520 and 5% lower than that means that the wholesale cost of the monitor is around $490. If Gateway has promotions to sell this around $490 or even a bit lower with promotions then it can compete with the dell 2105fpw.

mmm... sounds prudent for them to sell their product AT cost... yes yes lets LOSE money on it. THAT must have been Gateways new strategy to pull themselves out of the hole.
