gateway 6400 servers

does anyone have gateway 6400 servers? i was wondering if anyone that has this server has tried to install linux on it. i installed w2k and xp without any problem...., but since i'm an amateur linux user, i can't get passed the part where it asks me for scsi drivers for the computer (computer came with symbios ultra scsi; adaptec would have been easier) so it won't even detect any hds on the computer. arrgh.., this is frustrating... :disgust:

can anyone assist me on this? i really appreaciated.

What scsi controller is it and which distro are you trying to use? Do they have a scsi bootdisk you can try?

i was trying with both mandrake 7.2 and redhat 6.2 i believe. i don't think they came with the boot disk, but they both booted up from cd.

the scsi controller that came with the server is LSI Symbios 53C1010 Dual-Channel Ultra160, which i don't believe the distribution i was using was supporting them or at least, had the drivers for them. i installed it with adaptec scsi before and the installer found it right away, but not the ones i have now with LSI Symbios.

anything i'm doing wrong or missing to do?

You could try a more up to date distro.
