I found this on Bestbuy.com
*Note this is instant rebate, and I also confirmed with my local BB for price to avoid shipping costs*

Gateway 420GR
2.93 Pentium 4 - 1 Mb L2 Cache
512MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM expandable to 4.0GB
DVD Dual Layer Burner W/ an extra CD-Rom Drive
160.0GB Serial ATA hard drive (7200 rpm)
7 USB 2.0 Ports - 3 Firewire Ports
8-in-1 Media Card Reader
Windows XP Home * Including Nero 6 Suite and Works*

A few dislikes are:
- 533Mhz FSB
- Integrated Intel Graphics - * Although I went into best buy and believe this has a Pci-express slot so you can upgrade this later *

BTW:I wanted to introduce myself and thank everyone for many great deals I have found here. I have been reading posts here about a year. Go easy on me if you dont think this deal is so hot.

I highly doubt PCI-Express was paired with a Northwood revision B FSB.

It might have a pci-e slot because the processor is socket 775 which generally(?) come with pci-e slots.

On this forum (here) some guy got his to 4.7ghz! (though im sure he has some crazy cooling) Screenshot (here)

If the 10% off coupon still works that'd make this deal even sweeter.

Actually, it is PCI-E.. I installed an X700 Pro on one of these for a customer a week ago and it performed beautifully. Pair one of these deals with a 6600GT and you have a decent system for under $1000 to play some games on. HOT deal, there are 4 available i believe at the nearest one here Quail Springs OK, and i can confirm the $499.99 deal as i saw it when i was cleaning up tonight.

Same motherboard thats used in the 5xxGR series Gateways- The 420 for that price is nice, as its dual channel DDR(with 2 open slots), SATA HD, and has a PCI-e slot.

We put together ALOT of these systems with X700Pros- This and the 505GR (3.2gHz, 1GB Ram) make very nice game machines for store bought systems.

My store is basically out-

Man, prices like these take all the fun out of building one myself. Great deal.

Edit: the case style suggest this is rebranded Emachines system which explains the low price.

emachines owns gateway, "which explains the low price".
i saw this at lunch, almost xeroxed the tag, but have one 9500 pro and (two) 9700 pro just sitting around
what is the power supply rated at though? probably the most important question?

Actually Gateway owns Emachine. They bought them and the CEO of Emachines runs Gateway since their business model was far more successful than Gateways own. If you look at the build carefully you'll notice the design cues are very similar, however the parts used in the Gateway desktops are for the most part of higher quality. Also, you'll notice that Gateway computers in B&M do NOT, and will not have MIR, only IR, the exact opposite of Emachines which tend to favor large MIRs.

As for the power supply, i'll check into it tomorrow :)

Found more info. on this system

This Confirms Pci-e slot.

Also, from what I've been reading, I believe this is a prescott chip without hyper threading,
Not a Northwood revision B FSB

You would be correct, two of us confirmed it above. I sell em left and right at work and work on them.

The price shows $599.99. Where does the IR show up? I even added to the cart and it doesn't reflect any discounts.

Is it available at B&M?

The deal is dead. I had it in my cart yesterday at $499. I didn't pull the trigger since I wanted to sleep on it. I just checked my cart and the price went up $100. Oh well, looking fo the next deal. I snoozed and loosed.

i don't think it was a two-day deal. i think bb realized people was buying it over their insignia line and jacked the price up
the tag (i saw) didn't have an expiration date for the deal (wishes i had xeroxed it now for others to view)
