Gateway 2000 NS-8000 Server

Just got one of these from my mom's work, but there is no RAM. I googled for a little bit, went to the gateway support site, and said it needs 72bit 60ns ram. But I have some EDO ram laying around, and they definately do not fit this board. The DIMM slots have 2 notches, on near the end and one near the middle. I have tried a stick of SDRAM, and the notch closest to the side is off by about 2-3mm. I have tried and tried, it just won't go in. When I did a search, there was some 168pin EDO ram, that looks like it would fit, but I never see any 168pin EDO RAM for sale on these forums. The motherboard says Dual Klamath PCI/EISA M/B, 12210410-30, Rev. B / J. It uses ECC RAM btw. Any idea on what this motherboard actually uses? Thanks...

Stan.

That message just means Crucial no longer stocks the RAM.
It does not answer the question asked.

It requires ECC EDO Memory, and if my memory is correct,
can only accept it in 64 mb or single-sided 128 mb 60 ns modules.
ALl the NS-8000 I have ever seen had the Deschutes (P2-333).

Go here to find out what was originally purchased:

eBay would be your best bet on finding any, along with the
FOR SALE\TRADE forum here.

I can't seem to find the S/N on this thing anywheres. I mean theres 2 stickers with numbers on the rear of the case, but doesn't say Serial Number... I was on Ebay on found 168pin EDO ECC Ram, 4x64MB sticks 60NS. Should work, hopefully I will win it, no other bidders yet, 2 hours left... Also I will be getting matched Pentium 2's 233Mhz processors on these forums. Hopefully they will work fine. Also, would this support a 20GB hard drive? I have a 20GB hard drive laying around, but not sure if it needs something smaller for the O/S drive... Thanks.

BTW, if I use dual P2 233 Mhz processors, and 256MBs of RAM with sufficient hard drive space, this thing should beable to run Windows Server 2003 right?

Doubtful you can install it because of Hardware drivers issues, but even if you can it will be not of much use.

You would be better off installing a flavor of *Nix* if you want to use it as a "File Server".

Ok, I got my RAM, 4x64MB ECC 168pin 60NS EDO RAM, and it still doesn't fit. The little notch closest to the end is just a few centimeters off again. Any ideas?

try all the ram again its either edo and edo has wierd clips or w.e and really small almost like simms but shorter or it has to be sdram those are like the only ones at that time i got some socket 7 amds maybe two 550 k6-2 man that aould be half way fast and two pci cards some how in sli lol pimp stuff

Well I bought EDO ECC Ram off eBay. It even says EDO-64MB-ECC and is 60NS. I believe I tried SD, but I'm not sure what the deal is. The one notch in the middle goes in fine, but the notch near the end is a little off on the one on the motherboard.
