Dual core with Vista Home Premium, 1GB and $599 with no rebates.....

I'd have to say its a very good laptop for your general laptop user.

The only thing that I'd say people would complain about:
1. it's not core 2 duo; its pentium dual-core
2. it has cd-rw/dvd combo; no dvd burning capability
3. only has a 1GB of ram to run Vista when that would be min requirements and recommended requirement would be 2GB nowadays for a smooth Vista experience.
4. its bundled with Microsoft Works 8.5

Office Depot has a similarly-spec'ed laptop, but it has a C2D T5200 instead. You have to order in-store and shipping will cost ~$50, but there is a $50 shipping cost on the Gateway anyways.

This appears to have a true brushed aluminum palmrest which, to me, would make a huge difference.

Still, it comes to over $700 with tax and shipping and has been hovering only $50 above this price for weeks. With 1GB I'm not sure there's a nicer notebook for the price.......it's just that $700 is too close to the price of better notebooks and gives me pause. I chatted and asked if they could knock off the shipping, but no go.....would have been enough for me, but, as it is, I'd rather grab that NX7400 from Newegg for a few dollars more and get a much nicer notebook.

I bought this notebook for my wife at the beginning of this year. It looks very stylish, is very fast, and made with quality parts. I would definitely get this over a Dell. My wife loves it and I find myself using it at times too. I can't say enough good things about it:)

Gateway customer service is great an another great thing about this laptop is you can upgrade the processor to a 2.4 C2D chip, which is a very nice feature that most laptop motherboards don?t allow.

I agree that a T5200 would be a better chip if you cold get it for around the same price. I?m waiting to get one with a T5200 or better just because I am speed freak.
