I don't...I just don't get it:

Obviously the same guy who designed Vista is in charge of their commercials too

This thread has run its course. The forum guidelines provide;

1) No trolling, flaming or personally attacking members. Deftly attacking ideas and backing up arguments with facts is acceptable and encouraged. Attacking other members personally and purposefully causing trouble with no motive other than to upset the crowd is not allowed.

In addition;

2) Locking threads ? Threads that violate user or posting guidelines or degrade into flame wars or are full of nef posts will be locked.

Both sides are guilty here. In the future, lets try and keep it civil people.

Well.. these ads are supposed to be directed at the Apple vs. PC ads, so I think you can post about 'em here.

I thought it was awful. They obviously were trying to capture that "Seinfeld"-esque style, and it just doesn't transfer over without Kramer, George and Elaine... it just was stale and stupid.

I hate that argument, just because people talk, doesn't mean it's good for your business.

I liked it ....Perhaps MS dont need to knock a product publicly and stereo type to get the message across.

I thought the MAC vs PC ad's lacked any truth and seem somewhat child like " Im bigger then you ".

Those that can do....Those that can't talk about it.

I am not sure why this has been posted here anyway...

Those MAC adds promoted the type of person who derives one's sense of self worth by adopting a elitist attitude.

People like that have to find a way to, in their own minds, rise above the rest of the masses. Knowing the "secret handshake", parroting the obscure, and braying against the commonplace is how you sustain your ego.

Makes me wonder if all your anti <fill in the blank> diatribes are merely further expressions of this need for ego-reinforcement.

If Bill Gates wants to stand in a mall with a guy from an TV show that used to be on, live with it.

Did an Apple employee molest you as a child or something? If yes, then I apologize for speaking so flippantly about it, but if not, then why are you here? Do you go other places to tell people that they are in some way wrong? Also, what is with you and saying "Those that can, do... those that can't, talk about it". So what are you incapable of doing such that you are talking about people being idiots?

1.It's a open forum.

2.When did I say "who" was wrong?

3. Merely highlighting the fact that MS didn't have to put down so blatantly another rivals product. I've noticed through out my life, those that keep their heads down, don't respond to criticism other then in a productive way perform better then the average joe.

4. I'm an admin on a windows network and have a small group MAC user's who believe that we should completely change our infrastructure for aesthetics sake. There's probably a reason why their they make video's and play with flash all day while I deal with the budget and the day to day running of the network...

Sorry I have just had my balls twisted my mac users recently.

the mac ones are really funny not only for the jokes, but for, alot of the times, the obviously falseness of the statements.

But i ddidnt get it at all, what was it trying to say? Can i eat my computer? This commercial does not compute.

Apple would never admit to that. I know someone who claims he never gets virus's and MAC's are immune, he also claimed 1gb in his IMAC would see him through until 2010 , he said something along the lines of " 1GB in a mac is worth 2-4Gb in a pc".

I think I'm right in saying the more deluded users tend to come from the apple side.

Well, we all know, 'that guy, that said this' and boy are they an idiot. I disagree that more deluded users come from the Apple side simply due to the number disparity. Last I checked there were more Windows based systems out there than Mac OS based system, and by proxy, the former has a larger user base.

I too have heard of the OS X user that thinks that they are immune to the plagues of the internet, because it is more or less true thus far. I have seen almost every instance of malware attacking OS X users (meaning I have seen the stories in the news, not that I have been hit by them), and to date, none of them in the wild are actually dangerous. One that I can think of requires the user to be using iChat, and then be in an area where they have Bonjour connected other people. It will then spread to those people.... and that is it. It does nothing evil at all. And, last I heard... 2 people had caught it.

Regardless of the validity of the statement that Macs are immune to viruses, it is hard to argue with the empirical evidence which is that there is a disproportionately low number of viruses out there that can attack OS X, in fact, unless we have invented some sort of new number that is less than one, but more than none, then the number of OS X viruses is: 0.

I am a big fan of my MacBook. I like Mac OS X. I find that I can get more done in the same amount of time on my mac, that it multi-tasks better. I like that I can, whether or not it be the direct result of miscommunication, surf the web with impunity. I like that I can connect client's hard drives to my system, and clean them using AV in a VM and I have nothing to worry about when it comes to OS X getting infected. If a person, be it friend, family or customer comes to me and tells me that they are thinking about getting a mac, and asks if I would recommend it and why, one of the things that I would mention is that as it stands right now, there do not exist any viruses that can affect OS X.

Now, as to the topic of the video. As it stands right now, there is only 1 of these out thus far. I have heard that it is supposed to be a sort of setup commercial, sort of like saying "Hey, Microsoft here, we are going to start doing some commercials involving Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld. But before we actually have them pitch anything to you, we would like you to meet them, get the idea that they are really good friends that buy shoes together". And that is fine, I have no problem with that. However, they not only didn't say anything about any rival products, as best as I can tell, they didn't say anything about any product, other than that Seinfeld wants to eat a computer. So as it stands right now, we do not know if the next ad will be them sharing music on the Zune via, something you can't do on any other mp3 player. Or they will be playing freecell on Vista, the only OS to ship with that by default. The limited amount that I know about Bill Gates leads me to believe that he would not sign off on attack ads. But we do not yet know if these will be those or not, thus, I think it is best if we merely examine, discuss and make fun of this one, upon its own merits.

QFT

How do mac users justify paying more for the same hardware anyway ?

It was a bit different when they were using RISC but now there not.

Oh my gosh! Stop it now. This drives me nuts. It isn't much more, you are paying a $100-200 premium, at most... as long as you are looking for the specs of one of the computers that Apple sells.

Yes, they have a limited supply, and yes, you have more choice from hardware vendors on the PC side, but c'mon... we've shown it countless times that spec for spec Macs are NOT over priced.

We don't come into your house and crap on your head, and you, in turn, don't need to do it to us. Just because we like to use Macs, doesn't mean... (a) we feel superior, (b) we are stupid.

I buy Macs because I like the OS, it's that simple. Sometimes you pay more, sometimes you pay the same amount, you can also buy a system via eBay and pay significantly less. The whole price point argument is moot, so just drop it.

And what in the world does that have to do with the AD?

[/end rant]

Your complaint about my post is misplaced; the OP is the one who decided what the nature of this thread would be when he couldn't resist bashing Vista.

Note that I'm not a huge MS fan nor do I own Vista (I have XP and see no reason to switch). It's just that the stupid and misplaced smugness so common to Apple people is so goddamned irritating.

The OP said that obviously the guy that designed Vista and the guy that directed the commercial are one in the same, all that implies is that they both involve Bill Gates, they are both a little hard to understand (maybe I am just a simple Mac user, but i have used Windows since 3.1 and I had a hard time uninstalling something on Vista), and they both have the potential to be good, or at least interesting. Admittedly, that last part is more conjecture on my part, but it is not like we insulted you, therefore what made you speak up?

No. Vista has a bad reputation and it was quite obvious the OP took a jab at it because of that.

I just find it funny that you're all so upset your circle jerk was interrupted, and funnier still how it's perfectly ok to exchange smug smiles and bash Windows, but the minute someone grins and bashes Apple in return they're a heathen.

It really is a cult.

Hey, I make fun of all users equally :D

I have a Hackintosh, a real Mac, an XP laptop, a Vista Media Center, and a Unix file server. I think Vista is retarded and I hate the Mac user elitist attitude, and Linux is overly complicated. So yes, I was definitely taking a jab at Vista :D Actually Vista SP1 is pretty decent. I use it with the sidebar disabled and UAC turned off...even on an older machine, with the Classic theme it's definitely runnable. Plus the Media Center can't be beat, as far as an all-in-one DVD/Bluray/HD-DVD player with DVR and HD file playback.

You have to remember, you need to take fanboys with a grain of salt. Keep in mind that you're coming into Yankee stadium and shouting "the Red Sox are the best!". Obviously making fun of the home team on their turf isn't going to get you a lot of positive reactions

As Kaido pointed out in the post above mine, you have to consider the location. Nearly every thread about Apple in all the other forums here is quite the opposite. Primarily they start off quite tame, but nearly always the Anti-Apple crowd soon starts in with their comments about overpriced/elitest/fanboy/etc. Its a two way street. As this sub-forum is a location for users to chat about All Things Apple, it shouldn't be surprising that most of the people who visit here are going to primarily be Apple supporters.

You're more than welcome to disagree with a thread, healthy discussions are always welcome here, but when your first post in a thread is "What could be more quintessentially Apple than justifying paying a 200% markup by looking down your nose at people who didn't?", you can't be surprised when there are some who take offense to your comments.

Does the topic belong here? That's debatable. It's related to Apple if you read some of the reports prior to the ad campaign being released, that the ads were designed to directly attack back at the 'Mac vs. Pc' ads that Apple's been running for years.

Forget it, I'd have better luck persuading the tide not to come in.
