that tv spot was stupid. jerry seinfeld didnt do anything and neither did bill gates. the mac vs pc ones are at least a tiny bit funny, but the microsoft ones just try a bit too hard..
the mac ones are really funny not only for the jokes, but for, alot of the times, th
e obviously falseness of the statements.
But i ddidnt get it at all, what was it trying to say? Can i eat my computer? This commercial does not compute.
Apple would never admit to that. I know someone who claims he never gets virus's and MAC's are immune, he also claimed 1gb in his IMAC would see him through until 2010 , he said something along the lines of " 1GB in a mac is worth 2-4Gb in a pc".
I think I'm right in saying the more deluded users tend to come from the apple side.
Well, we all know, 'that guy, that said this' and boy are they an idiot. I disagree that more deluded users come from the Apple side simply due to the number disparity. Last I checked there were more Windows based systems out there than Mac OS based system, and by proxy, the former has a larger user base.
I too have heard of the OS X user that thinks that they are immune to the plagues of the internet, because it is more or less true thus far. I have seen almost every instance of malware attacking OS X users (meaning I have seen the stories in the news, not that I have been hit by them), and to date, none of them in the wild are actually dangerous. One that I can think of requires the user to be using iChat, and then be in an area where they have Bonjour connected other people. It will then spread to those people.... and that is it. It does nothing evil at all. And, last I heard... 2 people had caught it.
Regardless of the validity of the statement that Macs are immune to viruses, it is hard to argue with the empirical evidence which is that there is a disproportionately low number of viruses out there that can attack OS X, in fact, unless we have invented some sort of new number that is less than one, but more than none, then the number of OS X viruses is: 0.
I am a big fan of my MacBook. I like Mac OS X. I find that I can get more done in the same amount of time on my mac, that it multi-tasks better. I like that I can, whether or not it be the direct result of miscommunication, surf the web with impunity. I like that I can connect client's hard drives to my system, and clean them using AV in a VM and I have nothing to worry about when it comes to OS X getting infected. If a person, be it friend, family or customer comes to me and tells me that they are thinking about getting a mac, and asks if I would recommend it and why, one of the things that I would mention is that as it stands right now, there do not exist any viruses that can affect OS X.
Now, as to the topic of the video. As it stands right now, there is only 1 of these out thus far. I have heard that it is supposed to be a sort of setup commercial, sort of like saying "Hey, Microsoft here, we are going to start doing some commercials involving Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld. But before we actually have them pitch anything to you, we would like you to meet them, get the idea that they are really good friends that buy shoes together". And that is fine, I have no problem with that. However, they not only didn't say anything about any rival products, as best as I can tell, they didn't say anything about any product, other than that Seinfeld wants to eat a computer. So as it stands right now, we do not know if the next ad will be them sharing music on the Zune via, something you can't do on any other mp3 player. Or they will be playing freecell on Vista, the only OS to ship with that by default. The limited amount that I know about Bill Gates leads me to believe that he would not sign off on attack ads. But we do not yet know if these will be those or not, thus, I think it is best if we merely examine, discuss and make fun of this one, upon its own merits.
