We care more about people in other countries then our own. Just look at immigration and the Iraqi War.

This is a private donation from a private trust. This isn't your tax dollars at work. No reason to be pissed.

That said... JS80 is 100% correct. Unless Bill is personally working the soup line and dosing the meds, that money is headed straight for a Swiss bank acct.

Children are children, whether they're American or not.

Besides that, Gates also does quite a bit to help kids in our own country as well, especially in terms of education.

It's fashionable to give money to Africa. Though nothing ever helps them and nothing ever will (read: vast overpopulation in an area that can never sustain it).

Keep your rolling eyeballs to yourself and yes I have been out country quite a few times. Open your eyes to the state of issues in this country. I have traveled in this country and other countries doing volunteer work. Many parts of our country look as bad some third world countries.

Ask before you speak and insert your foot

Yeah, but our bad parts look like the really, really, really, good parts of third world countries. (Y'know, where they have running water, sanitation, electricity, HBO...) :p

It's private money. Go make a thread about the billions our government hands out to foreign countries instead.

Hopefully not time spent as a English tutor.

QFT!!! I have never been oversees yet, but I keep informed and things are very different in 3rd world countries. A guy making minimum wage in the States is in the 90% of richest people in the world.

Of course living standards are higher here, but living conditions are much better too. Hobos on the streets of the States have it better than many starving kids in 3rd world countries. They get gravenly sick, hospitals are legally supposed to care for them. There are soup kitchens and charity organizations. Over there, you are gravenly ill, you are basically dead.
