Gastric Bypass Surgery

What happens when the person loses the weight and they no longer has any fat to burn? Is that tiny stomach enough to sustain them without excess fat to burn?

Yeah it is, and it also stretches to some extent. Some of the more recent approaches allow for them to have some level of control over how big the stomach is, because they use a compartment or bands to squeeze on it and things like that.

Couldn't the stomach just stretch to normal size again? I was under the impression that if a GB patient's eating discipline was so bad, even after surgery, that he/she could feasibly just stretch it out and be obese all over again.

no because they get sick when they eat too much. also, certain foods make them feel sick as well. that surgery forces you on a strict eating regimen for life from what i've heard.

They can stretch it pretty badly again, but if this relied much on will power it wouldn't work, so it will never stretch out to the same extent AFAIK.

OH okay.....so it CAN stretch....but stretching (or eating poorly) would be the thing that requires will-power, as opposed to eating correctly, because they'll need some Pepto Bismol stat. Gotcha. 😉

This kind of surgery is not entered into lightly . . . . it is (hopefully) a last resort for very obese people who cannot (will not) lose weight in any "normal" manner . . . . where the "other option" is dying (soon). 😉

And yes, that tiny stomach will stretch and these people with (now) normal) weight eat many smaller meals to keep up the necessary calories. 😉
