**GASP** Dell... Opteron... **OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED**

That doesn't seem to be in an actual system yet. They are just selling it on the side. That being said it's no strategic boost for AMD.

I wonder if this violates their agreement with Intel...

As long as they aren't building with it I wouldn't think so. If they can succeed as a retailer for the processors individually that still gives them a little bit of income. And if it goes well they just might build servers with it.

Haven't we all suspected Dell as pimping for both sides, just a matter of time before they find a street corner for AMD that doesn't conflict with Intel's tricks...

One small step for AMD, One giant leap for Dell. Or is that the other way around? 😉

It's about time ! The monoply is starting to fall (Intel) This will mean even more compitition ! And that better for all of us ! Now if only Microsoft could have a stronger competitor......

I wouldn't say Intel is a monopoly like Microsoft. In the recent Steam HL2 survey it showed that the AMD/Intel split was near 50/50. Either way, more competition is good for us!

I love AMD, but last I heard, Intel had 85% (+- 3%) of the market. I call that a monopoly !

Intel isnt even close to a monopoly.

They are definately dominant, but they arent anti-competitive, and they dont control enough aspects of the market to constitute a monopoly.

But 90% of business computers (75% of which are Dell's) probably aren't going to be participating in a "gaming" survey.
