My dads car takes 18.5 gallons. I ran it so low the car started to buck a little and hesitate. Went to the gas station, and it took 18.5 gallons of gas....:Q

50 miles in an Audi A4. The gas gauge is very conservative on that car, and it still has a gallon and a half in there once it hits empty.

I think when the E light comes on I have 1 1/2 gallons left in the car. I try to find a gas station within 30 miles at that point.
Closest I got was when I was trying to make the cheap gas in Chicopee, MA. Think I had maybe a half gallon left in the tank. Not sure of the miles but it came on almost immediately after the last service area on the pike before I-84 splits off.

They claim the low fuel light comes on w/ 2 gallons left in the car, but, if I fillup at close to that time I can barely get in 8gallons. The tank holds 12g so the light has a 2gallon margin of error. Hence I am hesitant to go more than 50miles when it's that low.

On a long trip once, I pushed it... I forget exactly but I think I went 70-80 miles passed the low fuel light. Was on the highway and passed a gas exit when it came on, another one shortly thereafter, and then wouldn't you know it, next gas exit was forever away... I was sweating bullets at that point because the Mrs. was with me and asked what the 'beep' was when the low fuel came on and saw me pass the two exits as I confidently said it's got at least x miles left to go...

Well... fortunately I was able to find a station and fill up before I had to walk through the desert like Clark Griswold did. in the vacation movie. Phew.

The low fuel light won't even come on in my brother's firebird; the guage is screwed up. It's "empty" when the gauge hits the last quarter mark before E - he learned this the hard way 😛

I myself have never seen the low-fuel light come on in any of my vehicles; it's just not a risk that I would want to take. So I fill up whenever I start getting close to empty.

I've done about 40 miles with the light on. Managed to fit 59.3 litres into a 60 litre tank that time.

That's a 97 Mitsubishi Carisma 1.8 automatic

What's the most miles you've gone after the empty gas light came on?

What kind of car do you have?

How many gallons do you have left when the gas light comes on? I was told that it's normally 2 gallons, but i guess it depends on the car.

Anyway, my car:

2004 Manual MAZDA3s
45 miles

About the same as you, and I have a 2002 Manual Mazda P5. zoom zoom

Went 30 miles in my '98 Ford Explorer and ended up running out of gas on the drive back from Vegas about a mile from the gas station. I let the car sit and it started back up and made it to the Gas Station. I was lucky.

My Altima has about 4 gallons left when the light comes on, but I can't drive far because the flashing odometer is so annoying.

Same.

The other day was the first time I filled it up, and I saw the light go on about 10 miles from home and I was like "oh damn." Stopped at the nearest station after hitting my exit and it only put in 16.25 gallons. I was pissed cause I could've gone to the station with the lower prices (that's closer to my house). Now I know that I can get about ~90 miles out of it once the light goes on, but I probably won't push it that far.

And that light gets annoying as hell.
