What's the most miles you've gone after the empty gas light came on?

What kind of car do you have?

How many gallons do you have left when the gas light comes on? I was told that it's normally 2 gallons, but i guess it depends on the car.

Anyway, my car:

2004 Manual MAZDA3s
45 miles
 
Probably 10-15 miles or so, I didn't really feel like taking a risk doing much more than that. 😛

I think it's about 2 gallons left in my car too when it starts complaining - the last time I did a fillup from near-empty, it was 15.6 gallons or so, and I have an 18 gallon tank. (1994 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi)
 
The light comes on on my landcruiser at about the 20 gallon point. It has a 25 gallon tank, so I should be able to go about a minimum of 75 miles after it comes on. I've only done about 25 though.
 
I've gone 50-60 before on my '90 Galant.
My Altima has about 4 gallons left when the light comes on, but I can't drive far because the flashing odometer is so annoying.
 
yea i've gone about 20...I don't really want to see how long i can drive before the car dies on me, hmm unless i'm driving circles around a gas station. 🙂
 
The guage hit empty at about ~300 miles in the Celica, and you could go 450+ on one tank.

The LIGHT, however, would kick on at about 420 IIRC...it's been a long time though.

nope. I didn't finish the whole tank off. That's just the most miles I've gone with the light on 😛.

I guess i live dangerously....it got the better of me once. Running out of gas really sucks!

Also have a manual Mazda3s, and I think I've pulled off about the same with my fuel light on (45-50 miles).

In my parents' RAV4, I managed 40 miles with the light on, and it hits very late in that car. When I filled it up the next day, it was 0.1 gallons under tank capacity.
 
50 - 60 miles in a Ford Escort... regularly.

Less in tank means less weight means better gas mileage 😉
I'm testing out that theory that my fuel pump is going to wear out quicker... so far, it hasn't.
 
Don't have a gas light. My gas gauge is broken as well. When I'm full it shows just over a quarter of a tank and sporadically goes down as the tank empties. Oh, and the odometer doesn't work either so I just kind of wing it. I've never run out gas in the 5 and half years I've had the truck so I do alright.
 
i've done about 30 after the light came on. i should be able to get ~75 to 80 out of it. i don't want to find out the hard way that it's less than that, though.
 
3-4 gallons left when the light comes on. The lowest I've run it is a tad under 2 gallons left. The needle was completely below E.
 
I drive a Dodge Ram Quad Cab. If I can't see the gas station when the light goes on, I'm not going to make it!
 
I have about 2.1 gal left when the light comes on my protege. I've driven about 25 miles with the light on before.
