Gas tax

Budmantom

Lifer
Does anybody have an idea of how much tax we are paying on gas?

I thought it was way above the average 8%.

Thanks,

Tom

Federal ~18 cents/gallon + whatever your state taxes are. Usually somewhere between 40 and 60 cents/gallon total.

It really depends on state because the federal tax is 18.4 cents a gallon and then the state tacks on their baggage. So look up your state tax on a gallon of gas and add 18.4 cents to it and you have what you are looking for.

Why in the hell dont they tax the oil companies more money instead of taxing consumers at all? They are laughing all the way to the bank these days.

because they'll just raise the price and pass those taxes on to us, the consumers. go retake econ101. businesses work on profit. if they stop making profit, they stop doing business.

how about government cuts spending and taxes and it's a win for companies and consumers.

Hmm, wouldn't it be an icy day in hell before we didn't have tax on gas?
I was joking about it because a coworker and I were talking about this on msn:

Sorry for not being clear, however, I really couldn't care less if anyone thought that comment was stupid.

wait a minute... gas taxes? Are they automatically rolled into the cost per gallon listed at the gas station? It doesn't seem like Ohio has a state gas tax, so only the federal applies? Would this be why gas in Ohio tends to be lower than places like California?
